In my 02, I need to install an Odyssey battery (925). Because the of the terminal cable length (kind of short), I need to position the battery as far back in the tray as possible, which means I need to drill the tray which is shown very well in NSX1's picture.

I need to get that tray out. How do I do that? Ive done a search already. Still unclear.

TIA

If I understand what you are asking it is 4(10mm) bolts and the whole tray and pan come out. Not hard at all.

Sorry - How does that tray, which the battery mount in the above picture is bolted to, come out?

Do I have to raise the car or does it slide forward? up? Playing around in there last night it *appears* to be fused to the lower tray. Id like to pull the small battery tray out so that I can drill it without affecting the bigger and lower tray.

If I remember correctly I think the smaller tray that the battery actually sits in is welded to the larger tray that is bolted to the car. I had the tray out of my 95 but I haven't had the one in my 04 out. I did raise the front end because there just is enough room to get to the aft bolts. It will take you longer to get the spare tire out and unhook the battery than it will to take that tray off. I hope this helps.

The battery tray assy is bolted to the frame with 6 bolts. You need a 12mm socket to remove them, also prior to removal you need to remove the spare tire bracket, 5 bolts, 10mm socket:).

Awesome, thx Larry and Terry.

Spare and stuff are already out. I actually installed my battery last night and made use of one of the factory holes on the smaller tray. I drilled two new ones on the lower tray. Worked fantastic! Was very solid. But when I went to attach the terminal cables, nothing else mattered as they are about an inch shy!

Now having to drill the upper piece also, Im going to remove it to drill it.

Thanks again

UPDATE

I installed everything last night.

Tips for those doing future searching:

Raise the car. I put it up and was much easier to access the 4 (on my 02) 12mm bolts on the underside. Two up front below the area of the rad and two between the wheels near the midline.

When reinstalling the tray, I attached the front two bolts first then used the stock jack to raise the rear of the tray.

When reinstalling, dont tighten the front two bolts too much. Leave them loose until you get the rear bolts in as it will be much easier to line the rear holes up. Im reluctant to get under the car, so couldnt visually confirm the holes lined up from my point of view. Leaving everything loose, I was able to thread the bolts by hand to get them in, and then tighten.

Dont forget the teflon (plastic) washers that go between the tray and the bolt hole in the front!

I purchased the 925 billet mount from Summit Racing. While I received excellent service from Summit, I would be cautious with this mount as positioning is of critical importance. There is a lip around the battery which, if you are not careful, will position the Odyssey 925 battery too far from the terminal cables. Do a test fit considering cable length!
