Battery tie-down failure

Today after installing the battery there was a small spark from the tie-down holder. There was a very small cut in the plastic coating of the holder, which I neglected to inspect.
The battery is an Acura supplied AC-DELCO replacement battery. I was going to install a battery with the reverse posts but then the battery would probably short out on the firewall. Is there a combo that fits better without fear of the car burning to the ground?
Using old Supra parts I took the rubber tube inside a door assist handle, cut it in half and put this rubber on the tie-down bracket edge. I previously used a part from a Supra to get the NSX positive terminal to tighten down, rather than replace the cable.

I have seen a bunch of the OEM battery holder brackets with the rubber coating cut, torn or peeling. It is not a good design IMO.

Try removing it, stripping it down to the bare metal, and then coating it with that stuff you can buy in Home Depot type stores which is designed to rubber coat the handles of tools. You can usually get either a spray can or a dip can.

I had the very same problem, I was able to resecure the batt and I was able to glue an old innertube cut length wise. I do track the car so just to make sure I added a 1.5" wide velcro strap streched length wise across the batt. interestingly there is a slot in the batt tray that is 1.75" wide and .375" thick. this made the job so simple it took me longer to figure out how use the sewing machine to make the velcro strap than it did to get it installed. The strap may be overkill but I have seen a batt leave a car on the track. BIG MESS.
