Battery holder bar

Anyone ever make a new battery holder bar? Mine seems to be corroded, rusted, and the black cover is peeling pretty bad. I was thinking of taking one of those 90 degree edging strips that's about 1 inch on each side and "however long the battery is" and putting 2 holes in the center where the angle is for the 2 bars that extend down into the battery tray.

Since the bar is a 90 degree angle I was thinking of maybe using a dremel to cut some holes to fit some pretty big washers to keep it from moving around.

Does this sound like it's a good idea? Or does anyone have any better suggestions? It's like a 10 dollar DIY if you buy an aluminum side trim piece, and new side holder things at pepboys.

I had the same problem with my battery clamp so I replaced it with a new stainless clamp, put a 90 degree bend in it, drilled holes, and changed the J-bolts.

I have since switched my battery setup but I still have the custom clamp that I would be willing to sell if you believe it will fit.

Old setup (with the custom clamp):

Looks nice. That gave me the idea that maybe I don't have to drill the holes directly in the center of my beam, but I can just put them on the lower side like you did.

When i removed mine i noticed where the rubber had dried out and cracked in a couple of spots. I removed the rubber from the bracket and where it had cracked it had allowed water under the rubber. The bracket is bare metal covered with rubber so rust had started to form under the rubber. I cleaned the bracket up and put on three coats of primer and three coats of flat black paint. I could have purchased a new one but it would probably do the same thing and for $35 for the bracket it would not be worth it. Mine actually looks better now than with the rubber coating.

If you have the stock battery, then the stock clamp and any that are similar get VERY close to the positive battery terminal. Bad things if they touch.

Always take off the negative terminal wire first and put it on last.
Just a reminder for those working in this area of the car.

Mine had a tiny tear in it and I noticed a small blue spark when the battery was replaced after the winter. I taped up the holder bar that day and have since replaced it with new. I forgot to ask the Acura tech to give me the old bar in case somebody wanted it. I kind of wasted 50 bucks.
