Just to confuse the pricing issue. Bram's listing is for the Canadian autoTrader site by a Canadian dealer. So, does that make the listing price on autoTrader Cdn $ or US $ (because it is being auctioned off by BJ)? I expect that since the listing is on autoTrader.ca those are Cdn $ since they have not noted US currency. That would bring it closer to the expected prices.

I'm not 100% sure, but I dont believe that BJ's auction is anything but in USD.

Perhaps, some can confirm.

I've been watching this year's BJ, the prices seem quite high on a lot of cars.

As per the Facebook posting, if $90,000 was the final bid price at the auction, I would be inclined to agree that it is US $. I think that would make it a big outlier in RacerXwing 's data base. Somebody really wanted that car badly or got caught up in the moment.

My earlier comments were based on the autoTrader.ca listing which are in Cdn $ unless specifically noted.

Probably not the time to buy then. The big correction is coming, but when?

I am not so sure. If general economic conditions deteriorate as they did in 2007-2010 period, then you may see a price drop if distressed owners are forced to liquidate their assets by putting their NSXs in the market. The 2008 - 2010 period was a wonderful time to be an exotic / performance car buyer in the US market. 4-5 year old Porches, Ferraris and Corvettes were going for incredibly low prices, probably because there were so many owners who were highly leveraged and had to liquidate the cars. I read some Euro car magazines at the time and you didn't see any where near the price carnage that existed in the US market. If economic conditions remain relatively stable, I expect that we may just see a less aggressive increase in pricing.

The NSX prices will rise to the point that people looking for an exotic may turn to alternatives (unless it has to be an NSX). If the Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus ... 2nd hand market is also increasing, further price increases may be on hand. The NSX pricing will always remain volatile just because the market is relatively thin making price discovery difficult.

nothing fact driven but from recollection the 328/360 prices were 10-20% higher than last year:eek:....the German cars and Bentley of the last 20 years still seem to have fallen the hardest.....also the luster of the early air cooled P turbo cars has worn abit.

For Sale – rare 1995 “easter-egg*” Acura NSX T-top with many spares and OEM accessories** Berlina Black original paint, black original seats, almost zero mods from “as built” (see below) Rare 4 speed adaptive AUTOMATIC trans with paddle shifter – only 7 were sold in Canada. 143,600 km – extremely reliable daily driver, owned by me since 2003 / 57,000km Maintained rigorously to Service Manual by me and Sterne Acura – including timing belts, O2 sensors, suspension, rubber boots. VIN JH4NA1286ST800037 – Canadian original version (km/hr) – not a USA car. Never crashed or had body damage. Never driven in snow/salt while I owned it. Driven daily – starts every time. REASON for sale - I bought a 2017 NSX and cannot afford to keep both *Easter Egg version – inside dash area where you cannot see without major dis-assembly are modules with special one-off stickers applied by line workers. I have pictures of mine. They are a mixture of English and Japanese. The English text says: “An Eternal Sportsmind for You”…and is signed by the “Tester” in Japanese characters. According to recent phone calls to the factory, Mr Honda authorized a few of these hidden stickers while the 1995 production cars were being built. Mine was one of them. This is hard to prove – but I have to photos of the sticker from inside the dash modules. **SPARES/MODS/ACCESSORIES list: 1) 4 perfect condition OEM alloy wheels painted matte black powder coat epoxy with (good tread) Bridgestone Blizzak cold weather tires of exact correct front/rear sizes (built for NSX) 2) OEM install - Alpine 6 CD player – OEM Acura trunk mount, integrated to dash deck, with 6 “cartridges” and carry case for swapping batches of CDs quickly. 3) OEM (Japan option) Fog lights (not mounted yet) as well as OEM Canadian DTRL units (removed and replaced by LED version) 4) Science-of-Speed speaker mounts, LCD screen mounts, LCD touch screen, and many wiring modules for adapt OEM head unit to other stereo solutions (not installed) 5) Sparco racing steering wheel mounted on Science-of-Speed aluminum billet adapter (OEM steering wheel with airbag is un-modified and included if you want to go-back) 6) Real-time tire pressures / tire temperatures monitoring system – all 8 tires/wheels – dash mounted in location of original ashtray. Original parts can be put back 7) 2 copies of ALL Acura Service manuals supplied to dealers (Repairs. Body, Electrical) - $1,200 value 8) Full Acura OEM Workshop Service Blanket for protecting fenders and rear of car when work on engine is being done. 9) Viper remote control alarm system with 3 Fobs. Integrated to OEM alarm. 10) OEM titanium ignition/door lock key, plus several rubber top keys 11) Original factory 4 speed auto transmission (this is a second SPARE trans) – stored in huge air-tight PELICAN transport container – pulled from car at ~100,000 km due to tendency to switch into “2nd gear only – safety mode” when weather was very hot. Could not diagnose easily – so I bought an Acura factory crate transmission (same part number) and had Sterne Acura install it. The original transmission works fine with no noise or any symptoms – except when outside air is very hot. Needs to be pulled apart and cleaned according to 20 year experienced Acura/NSX expert. Value of trans = $5.500 from Acura in 2013 - included in sale 12) All signal/brake/running lamps upgraded to high intensity LED lamps. Signal flash rate adjusted to be same as factory. 13) 12V battery upgraded to spiral wound/light weight racing style battery. 14) Custom fitted cockpit area sliver sunscreen cap for summer days to reflect hot sun away from interior leather etc. 15) 2 brand new Bridgeston Potenza RE101 245/40ZR17 rear tires - OEM design & size - ready for next summer 16) two 1/24th scale radio control 2002 NSX type R toy race cars - with controls and battery packs 17) dozens of books and magazine articles about NSX from last 25 years Car is available for viewing and test drive even in cold weather (when roads are dry/clean) because I have cold weather compatible tires. Call [Redacted Phone Number] to discuss.

I think its better to say more "emotion" than reason...BJ really puts you in a gotta buy something mood if you are a secured bidder....kinda like how casinos and grocery stores subliminally set you up....

In short, this sale is the most blatant outlier I have ever seen. I cannot overstate how ridiculous this sale price was.

My data suggests the nominal value of this NSX is ~$53k (based on 10 NA1 Targa manual sales last year, 50k km, and the average effect of the automatic transmission of -8%). This means it sold for NEARLY DOUBLE its nominal value! I do not have record of any 1995-2001 NA1 Targa automatic ever selling for more than $50k, even those with lower mileage than this one. I am still stunned.

My late father-in-law was an artist / teacher and did appraisal and auction work in his retirement years. He used to like to watch the high end car auctions on TV, both to see the cars and to watch the process of how they worked the price up. I tend to agree that it appeared to be very much a 'Casino Experience'.

As an aside, back in 2018 Mar you posted this question - you finally received an answer!

as an auto trans it might appeal to an older buyer and those folks usually have more disposable net worth....have you seen any auto trans outliers to the upside?
