Hi, everyone,

I live in Houston, TX, and will be purchasing a 2000 NSX (manual, 28k miles)from out-of-state (TN). I am planning on hiring Barney Demonbreun to perform the timing belt/water pump service before I fly in to pick the car up. The problem is that I am having a difficult time getting in touch with him. I have tried to call, email, and finally, leave a text message on his cell phone. I understand that he has an excellent reputation in the NSX community, so I am considering waiting to hear back from him vs getting the major service done at the local Acura dealership before I pick it up. I would like to do this before September ends. Any suggestions?

Oh, also, in addition to the major TB/WP service, what other services would you have done at the same time? I am seriously considering replacing many of the wearable items, so that I don't have to worry about it in the near future. Does Acura have a refresh program like Science of Speed does?

Thank you all for any suggestions.

The local dealership in Nashville, Gary Force Acura, does not have anyone factory trained to work on an NSX. I would not let them touch my car, even for an oil change.

Barney now owns a club in downtown Nashville, but is still working on NSX's, like he has on mine for years. I'd definitely wait to hear back from him before taking the car to Gary Force.

By the way, is the car you're planning on buying Joe's black 2000?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the insight on the local Acura dealer.

Yes, it is Joe's NSX. Joe had Barney do a PPI on it for me, and it looks good, but needs the major service. Any opinion on Joe's car yourself? I've been looking for a completely stock 2000/01 blk NSX for many years now, and it seems like his fits the bill.

How long should I wait to hear back from Barney - I don't want to have to keep bugging him. I'm a little surprised that it seems to be so difficult to reach him, but I figured there must be a good explanation. I suppose I will have Joe try to reach him, he may have better luck than I would (being out of state).

Worst case scenario would be to have it shipped here and do the service locally, but I would prefer to drive it back!

Thanks again!

BTW - wow! You have been a member of NSXPrime longer than I have!

The cooling system hoses, definitely. And maybe the crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer pulley).

As well as all the other scheduled maintenance services if they're due or will be do soon - you know, all the fluids and filters, spark plugs, etc.

Barney also just got married so that may be part of your difficulty. I don't know that he's really doing much with cars these days, I do know the bar takes up most of his time, especially during the summer. If you can get hold of him, B's definitely the man but as a contingency plan, Track One Motorsports in Franklin now has a technician named Dan that is NSX trained. I know he worked on Eric from Tru-Shine's '92 so you may want to hit him up and see how his experience was. Welcome!

*EDIT*: Track One's website is here.

Roger that. They truly don't give a flying rat's ass about much of anything except making as much money as possible. They absolutely will not price match on parts even though they know I buy all of my big-ticket parts from Acura of Augusta. Russell & Jim in Parts are knowledgeable & good guys but they are totally hamstrung by management.

If he has given up on automechanical work it is a sad day for his local region.

Hi, guys,

I did ultimately end up getting in touch with him, and the plan is to have some major maintenance performed (to the tune of $4K ) and the 2000 NSX ready for me to drive home to Houston in 2 weeks! Thanks for all of the replies to this thread!
