Finally some good results. I think Bar-Honda can really turn things around this year. I just wish VILLENEUVE would do better, as that would maybe prompt him to stay with Bar for next year. Otherwise, if the Bar-Honda cars stay reliable, things could be interesting. I do not think we will fight for the top 3 this year, but at least Honda seems to have their mind in the game as opposed to making heavy, under-powered engines as was claimed last year.

Yes, I agree Honda is doing much better this year. But you also have to keep in mind the new qualifying rules this year which says you have to start the race on your qualifying setup. There's just a lot more strategy in the mix now, so you can't really tell if it's a better engine, or a better chassis, or if they're just playing their cards smarter and luckier. Look at a few of the lower rung teams of a year ago, namely Jaguar and Benetton, they've come a long way in a short amount of time too, but it's just too early to tell if it's the car or the new rules at play.

I don't think qualifying has much to with the cars running closer together. I think it's a matter of technological progress. The other teams are catching up. There have not been significant rule changes (e.g. engine or aero regulations) in a few years which permits other teams to copy or simply catch up up especially with personnel changing teams. The Honda engine in not that far down on power. Don't forget the BAR-Honda chassis is essentially a 2001 Williams designed by Geoff Willis.

I would tend to agree, but again you still have to figure in the pitstop window equation which has EVERYTHING to do with qualifying setups. For example, say Button starts with a heavy fuel load and Montoya starts with very little fuel which means Montoya pits earlier while Button stays out burning fuel. In essence you have a lighter Honda vs. a heavier more powerful BMW if they should go head to head. Not an apples to apples comparison.

I hear the Honda engine does have some much needed horses this year though which should help it's efforts, although I didn't know the BAR chassis was a 2001 Williams chassis, or is it a former Williams employee's interpretation?

It does seem so far that teams have been running similar strategies. Regardless of fuel load, there will be a point in the race where each team will be ripping off fast laps. Apples to apples the Honda cars are relatively competitive.

Is there any possibility to watch "live" in the US the Formula One on pay-per-view? My brother lives in San Diego now and he is asking me the way to solve this enormous problem! :D
THANKS!

Very doubtful. Depends on the cable/satellite feeds you get down there I suppose. The easiest way is just subscribe to the lowest priced package that has "SpeedVision" included, then wake up at 5am Sundays to watch the euopean races live.

svalleynsx is correct. We have Speed Channel (formerly Speedvision). They usually broadcast F1 races live during the time normal people are sleeping or coming home late from a party.

svalleynsx does your handle mean you are in Spring Valley CA? (91977/91978 zip codes?)

Speed Channel, available on cable as well as satellite plays all of the F1 races live and then replays them Sunday night and Monday night. They also show the Thur. practice and both qualifying days live as well. These usually are shown starting at 4:30 am West coast time.

It seems that fuel economy and pit windows are now playing a greater role in the race due to the new qualifying rules. McClaren seems to be trying to qualify with heavier fuel loads resulting in fewer pit stops while Renault is trying trying lighter fuel loads and more pit stops. Also, McClaren still beat one of the new "red" cars with their old car. Can't wait until Silverstone and the new McClaren rolls out!
