I read an article in the latest Motor Trend, saying that BAR is the ONLY team in racing history to successfully figure out, and currently use a fully c/f gearbox!! That is trick. Other teams have tried, but always failed. This is the second season for BAR, and this years box, made last years look like it should be in a historical museum. I guess they made some huge strides over last year.

Just think
c/f knob
c/f short shifter
c/f linkage
c/f driveshafts
c/f clutch
C/F GEARBOX!!!!!! Sweet!

They also said that BAR and Honda since startup worked seperately. Now this season they are working hand in hand. This year alone, the Honda engineers shaved off a whopping 37 lbs from the c/f tub just on the application, construction, and materials used. WOW.

BAR won a big automotive excellance award last year b/c of the gearbox - I forget which one. And the Honda engineers are doing too good a job b/c they forgot to leave some weight in and got DQ'd from two races. ;)

But yeah, very trick.

This whole CF stuff didn't make the team successful - look at the Nuerburgring result. The other teams say: Now you see the potential of BAR when they drive with legal means.

And you will shortly see a split between Honda and BAR, they will loose BAT as a sponsor (due to tobacco advertisement rules) and Honda will work with Williams that splits from BMW (you remember the old successful times of Honda/Williams?), eventualy with Jenson Button.

I read the same thing in a current issue of Import Racer.
I forget all the details they gave about some of the inside info, but they really have their act together right now.

These are still rumours at the moment....

No official statements as yet and as we know in Formula 1... Anything can happen! Even after the official statements. Remember the BAR/Williams/Jenson Button debacle at the end of last season..

Having said that, these are quite credible rumours if hints dropped by Mark Webber are anything to go by...

Sorry to say but that's BS. Honda just paid 180 million for a 45% stake in BAR. I don't think Honda is going anywhere. If anything BAT will sell the rest of the team to Honda when the tobacco ban starts. And that's a big maybe at best.

AFAIC, Williams can have Button. He's a great driver but not worth the team derision. I'm sure Anthony Davidson will be proven to be at least his equal. It'd be poetic justice if Button winds up in a Williams with Honda power.

No BS, Sir. Facts are: BAT wants to leave F1 at the end of the year. Then Honda would have to pay another big part. At that point the name BAR becomes obviously obsolete (why should Honda pay for team called "British American Racing"?) so the name will be blown in the wind.

Frank Williams was in Tokyo to talk with Honda and Toyota (did you read his latest interview with an italian paper where Patrick Head kicks BMW's asses?). He doesn't want to be 2nd choice when BMW provides its engines to Sauber next year. Williams has an option for Button in 2006.

At the same time Honda is extremely upset by BAR because of the fuel reservoir issue and the poor results. Some Honda guys even feel betrayed by BAR. What about the BAR resources when they really split? Well, there is always some russian oil billionare with F1 ambitions...

So my conclusion (and not only mine): We will see a BMW/Sauber-team and a Honda/Williams-team (with Button) next year. You call that BS? I suggest a bet on that, the loser pays 50 US$ as additional support to NSXPrime. How about that?

(I'm pretty sure Lud would like that because it's a win/win situation for his site  )

Hahaha...a bet? Already?

Yes, I know BAT wants to leave F1 but after that the theory runs into a few obstacles. For instance, you're saying Honda would split from BAR. Honda owns 45% of BAR. In fact, their engineers have never been so involved in the development of the car as they are right now. So they'd have to divest themselves by looking for a buyer, for at least $180 million BTW, and then hopefully buy a portion in another struggling team, Williams. And if you think Honda's feelings are hurt by BAR then you should remember Frank Williams ditched Honda in the late 80's.

Honda may be the next powerplant for Williams but the idea that they are soon leaving BAR is, perhaps, wishful thinking.

Definitely, yes, and the signs speak for me - the divorce of Williams and BMW is unevitable as all news agencies report. And of course Williams will need another engine next year (once again, I bet it will be Honda, they did a freaking powerful engine evolution stage for Montreal, didn't they?).

Mmmh, Ponyboy, it seems that I was at least partly right with my preview - it's now confirmed that we will see a pure Honda team in 2006 without BAR (but also without Williams) plus some kind of 2nd Honda team.

Don't know who won the bet though...

Too bad they can't figure out how to make their cars and drivers quick. Dumping Sato's worhtless driving effort would be a start and perhaps they should have let Button go.

How were you even close to "right?" Honda bought out the rest of BAT ownership in BAR. That's like saying you're getting divorced b/c you're getting married. Honda bought the rest of the team and will be changing the name. Oh, and so far the BAR management team is staying too. Does that sound like a "split?" There will be no 2nd Honda team in '06...at all.
