As part of Virginia's yearly car inspection, the ball joints must be checked for excessive play. This, I believe, is done by jacking up the car via the control arm and then checking for play in ball joint. I'm concerned that this will cause damage in the arm, etc., any comments/suggestions?

BTW, I got around this until recently by using the front jacking points to lift the car - not I'm told the proper way to allow the ball joint to be checked. The inspector that allowed me to do this, however, has since left.

I'll probable bring it into Pohanka and hope that they will be able to do the inspection without causing any damage.
