After kicking myself for 6 years for selling my last NSX, I finally found my way back into another. I had been stalking this car on the Japanese auto websites for 6 weeks exchanging messages back and forth with the dealer reps while in the US, then I drove out to see the car after getting back to Japan.

Had a good long look around/under the car and everything seemed to check out. Took it for a test drive and fell in love with the car all over again. Good records, newer clutch. No timing belt/water pump change, but I negotiated to have it done as part of the deal. Nice updates on an early car, newer OE wheels and exhaust, MOMO steering wheel, removable navigation system, but mostly original. Needs a good detail job, but that's about it. I really thought I would buy a red car, but this car was just too good and black suits me.

Here's my 1990 Honda NSX #382 .

They had a 2002 Midnight Pearl, but it was automatic! :frown: Anyway, thanks for reading.

Not particularly, no, but I will return on Saturday so I will make a note to check it out. I was a bit enamored with checking out my prospective car and really only took a short walk around to find that Midnight Pearl. Website says they have 13 NSXs there, and it sure seemed like there were a lot of them.

since the wheel is on the other side how are you gonna get it registered in the USA or do you live in Japan only?

nice color though my fav

Congratulations on your purchase! Love the wheels.

Now get that thing back to ol' Rocky Top. Haha.

Thanks. It's almost the spitting image of my old car except I had '98-'01 lighter silver wheels on my '91 and these are the darker '94-'97 wheels. Really classy look. Cannot wait to go back to TN with it.

I've lived in Japan for almost 3 years now and have another 2 or so to go, but ultimately I intend to import the car back to the US. At 25 years old, the car is exempt from being required to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or become emissions compliant (except California) given that the car is imported in "original, unmodified" condition and the proper paperwork filed. So this November, the car is legal to return to the US with the correct paperwork. With the prices climbing in the US, the dollar to yen ratio being extremely favorable, and the fact that I would be here another 2 years, it was time.

Congratulations! Excellent color choice

Thanks! Like I said, I really thought I would get a red car to change it up, but this was one of the nicest early cars in the country and I happed to be a sucker for black, particularly on this car. It was fate.

Nice find! Did you see the GP White 2006 Type-S that they have (had) there? - it is still being advertised on their website

I went back to give the rest of the payment for the car and snapped a few pics around the shop.

Here's the 2006 Type-S you mentioned NZNick. They want nearly 11mil yen for the car.

2005 base model wanting 9.2mil yen.

This was probably the most unique car there, and I'm not sure if it was a car they had not listed yet or if it was a customer car. It's a Platinum White Pearl Type-S. Not sure of the year, but '97-'01. Dealer rep told me "10mil yen" and I'm not sure if that's what they would be asking or if it's what he paid. The color was spectacular and I couldn't capture how it looked in person. Almost like mother of pearl.

Congrads. We still haven't gone for a ride, let's do it when you're back in Knoxville.

Congrats, Very interesting color on that nsx.

Thanks! Yeah I was intrigued.

Sounds great. Really looking forward to that. Hopefully be able to drive this car on some great TN roads.

Very very cool. You'll have a very unique car when you get back to the States.

Thanks for the great pics - the '06 Type S has been accident repaired, hence the lower than usual price for such a low km, late, Type S..... it would command at least 15Million Yen if not damaged!!

The Platinum White pop-up Type S is a rare beast too, as this wasn't a standard colour. It is similar to mine (no airbags), but mine has the dark wheel option and black (rather than blue) seat inserts to go with Monte Carlo Blue paint.

This is their current NSX stocklist.

Enjoy yours when you get to drive it!

Awesome car. Will be unique right hand drive when you get it back to the USA.
I spent 24 years in the USAF. Retired last year.
Good luck overseas and enjoy your time over there.

Awesome. Congratulations!

The car looks great.

Looking forward to seeing you bring it back to the states. Good luck with the process.
Would be worth the trip up to Knoxville to see it in person and meet everyone else in that area.

The Platinum White Pearl is an intriguing color, I actually thought it was the color of the early NA1 Type R wheels at one point in time.

If I had gone into the service, I totally would've tried to go to Japan so I could find a car. Have a friend who will be PCSing there soon, might have him look into some cars for me, lol.

So, the platinum is not the same as the "neutron pearl white" that some of the type-r's are?

Is 10 mil yen equal to about $80,000 USD??? Are type-r's ever for sale over there and if so how much???

Thanks!!!

Btw, 2005 was the last year the made the NSX, why do they call it an 06 over there?

Yeah and that wasn't my intention actually, but it's nice that it worked out. I actually would rather have a LHD car because it feels more natural to me.
Nice! What did you do if you don't mind me asking? I'm not sure if I'm going to stay until then...

Awesome. Congratulations!

Yeah I'd like to get another group going up to the mountains at some point when I'm back. Great area.

This thread talks a little about it, but Neutron White Pearl is NH545P. There was one of these for sale about a month ago, AT to MT swap, and the color looked much brighter than this Platinum White you see on this Type S.

Type Rs do pop up every so often. I've seen prices climb a couple years ago from around $75K to over $100K now for an early Type R, and well up to $300K for an 02+. I think the earlier cars might be worth it to some, but it would be hard for me to stomach $300K on an 02+.

I'm not sure why some are called 2006s. By everything that I can find, stop date for production was late 2005, but there could have possibly been some in progress at the time and were finished in 2006, and this isn't the first car I've seen called a 2006. The wiki isn't very clear on Japanese production, so some specs remain a mystery. Japanese NSXs share qualities of both EU and US NSX market cars I'm starting to find, and they could be individualized more so than the other markets.

Congrats on your new Nsx, what a beauty! Glad to see u back into the game.

Thanks. It's good to be back.

They finished up the timing belt/water pump late yesterday, so I took delivery of the car today and drove it about 1.5 hours home. Felt great. Got a few waves/pictures from a few local Japanese too. They're rare even in Japan.

Not going to lie, owning the same car with the steering wheel on the opposite side is a weird feeling. I should be in the left seat, even though I've been driving this way for years now. Felt like the same familiar NSX though after about 20 minutes. Good thing they don't swap the pedals around too.

Awesome!

I bet that must be a trippy feeling.

Keep us updated!

Very nice! Congrats on your purchase!
