hiI took mine off to replace them with CF ones. It is not easy, they are held in place with two studs and nuts that have to be accessed from behind. I took out the seats and the body panels behind the b-pillars, plus lpopped some of the plastic fasteners for the headliner panel to get to the nuts. The nuts are recessed in holes and you need a long socket to get to them. Plus you have to be careful not to drop the nuts inside the b-pillar or they are gone forever.Once you have the nuts off, getting the pillar cover off without breaking anything is still a challenge. There is a little tab at the top front of the pillar that slides under the roof trim, I accidentally broke that off, and the studs that hold the piece in place are very long, too long if you ask me, so I got it as far off as I could then cut the end of the top stud off with wire cutters rather than risk breaking anything else.Hope this makes sense. If he is just painting, it may be easier to just leave them in place and mask them. Dave
