Ayrton Senna May 1st 1994

A moment of silence from me...

I remember that day well. I was at an SCCA track event at Road America and it snowed like 4 inches cancelling all racing for the day.

I was at Michigan Speedway doing some testing and had to relay the news to Emerson Fittipaldi. Sucked. A lot. Just devastating.

That's been brought up before regarding that video...

I think someone speculated it was a trait he picked up when turbos were used in F1...not sure why though.

Why is he dabbing on the gas like that in mid corner?
Maybe he's not happy with throttle response, although probably not since he was only driving 6/10ths. If it's just a habit, maybe it's a balance thing, keeping a race car on the limit in a corner with throttle and brake. That would be one plausible explanation especially if he was a left foot braker. Don't know, was he?

Hi

I asked the same question here on Prime.

Take a look in this thread:

From post 15 and onwards this dabbing is discussed.

If you watch the video & watch his feet you'll see he's not.

Well, yeah, but no one left foot brakes when clutch use is mandatory, but in his F-1 car, (w/ racing gear box and no need to use a clutch) he very well may have.

If you have watched the NSX-R videos, you will see that the drivers do the same thing. Perhaps its a way of modulating traction to the wheels with on and off?

Should try it next I am on the track

Great video.

A few years ago, I had an opportunity to ride in some hotlaps in a stock NA1 NSX-R around Suzuka. They had the JGTC drivers giving us rides - my pilot was Hideki Okada, who drives a McLaren F1-GTR). Brings back memories...

JDM NSXs (AFAIK all of them, including the R and S versions) have a speed limiter at 180 km/h... needless to say he had it banging at the limit quite a bit (well before the braking zones).

Thank you for that video tribute.....I am profoundly saddened by his untimely demise. My eyes well up at the sight of his F1 car slamming into the wall....may God bring comfort to your soul. I and more so all of us miss you tremendously. Here's to our greatest inspiration in NSX ownership........God bless you Ayrton........
