Hey guys, so I was crazy enough to think I might enjoy this strut replacing task. It's such a headache. Good thing I'm not in a rush. Anyway so first order of business was to remove the RIGHT REAR axle to replace the inner boot. That thing is STUCK in there. I needed to feel like I made progress so I got frustrated and cut the boot that needed to be replaced and pulled out the axle out of the inside carrier. So the carrier, the "female side of the axle, if you will, is STILL in the intermediate shaft in the transmission. Here's a pic to illustrate where I'm at;

WHAT DO I DO?!? I've tried numerous ways of trying to pry it out. I'm a tiny guy (5'6", 125lbs but I've done plenty of axles before and it's NEVER been this stubborn. As the manual says, I tried using a screwdriver to pry it out. As members here have said, I've used two pry bars on opposite sides and nothing is working! Very frustrating. HELP!!

SECOND ISSUE;

im replacing my struts with 04 struts with Swift springs. I've installed the LEFT REAR one but the lower control arm ball joint wont go back in. I'm thinking I might have to undo everything (upper and lower control arms, rotor, sway bar links everything) to get it back in proper.

I started on the fronts but not much. I can't get it to pop off its title ditch because the bolt from the upper control arm is in the way. What do I need to undo/remove to make this go smoothly??? I've only unbolted to sway bar links.

With how long it looks like its gonna take me, it might have seen its last days on the road for the year so I have all the time in the world. Just don't wanna take forever so if you guys tell me to take both control arms off and everything, so be it. Please help. Thanks.

I will start by making your life easier in some ways. You do not have to seperate the ball joint ro replace the struts. Secondly the axles do come out there are some really good posts on this matter, just keep searching. The picture you supplied looks like the passengers side? It looks like you have not removed the support sorry I can not think of the correct term for it. I have replaced shocks and CV joint boots and axles with the help of the shop manual, which can be found under the wiki sextion I believe. So keep reading and searching. I can not give you any insight on the ball joint, as I have not done it.

When i removed my axles, my car was on jack stands & did not have enough clearance to use the long pry bar I had, so i had to use a short handle 1inch flat head chisel, tap with hammer into that triangular indention, popped right out & didn't hurt a thing.
As for the struts, i follow the tech manual with an addition of a 2x4 to pry the lower control arms slightly downward so i can maneuver the struts off of the tower. Hopes this helps.

use a pry bar or long screwdriver to pop the cup out. you need to work it from both sides to remove it straight out.

Lol sooooo you've "made my life easier" by telling me to search?? As I've stated, I've done what the manual days and I've done searches. Neither are that comprehensive. The ball joints on both rear are already off. The passenger side DID need to come off due to the axle removal. Yes, it is the passenger side. No I did my remove the carrier. Thanks for the input.

yikes. I e-mailed you with better instructions I am sorry I couldnt answer my phone Im sick in bed with the FLU. uggh surfing NSXPRIME with my phone

Timeless, I gotcha. I shall try that. My car came with a CD with only like 10-12 pdf sections out of the manual. You/anyone know where I can find the suspension section?

tbnsxt, already tried that.

Shawn, got it. We'll be in touch.
