Autolamps HID Install - Ballast inside the headlight cover?

So I just ordered an HID retrofit kit after much debate . I want to be able to completely stealth the install by placing the balast in side the headlight cover. Anyone have pics of how you mounted the balast inside the headlight cover? With the Autolamps kit would be great, but at this point I can't be too picky.

Thanks!

Yep, I have the 6000k kit from HID-Online.com installed in the headlight assembly. The ballasts and relays should fit in there no problem, just make sure you strap them both up. When I left one of my relays 'hanging' it got stuck in the path of the headlamp as it went up at one point. Use a 3/4" hole saw to cut through the weather cap and cut the hole high in the cap so it's easier to get the cap back on.

Here are pictures:

Perfect, I just ordered the 4100K version of the same kit - thank you so much!

Great choice. The 4100K color temperature gives out the most light and doesn't look blue at all. It's a beautiful pure white.

I thought that the 6000k would be too blue but boy was I wrong! The Autolamps 6000k kit is very white with just a slight hint of blue that leaves no question about the lights being HID. And it lights up the road great, much better than stock.

HID-Online.com seems to distinguish the 6000k kit as Ultinon. The 4100k kit will put out more visible light though, but to go from PIAA superwhites or stock to the Ultinon is really night and day. It lights up the road so well and looks so cool that I'm glad I went the 6000k route not that there's anything wrong with 4100k but you will not be complaining about the 6000K's light output.

6000k is an awesome compromise between functionality and looks. I have the Autolamps kit in 6000k and love it! It is my second set as I also had it in my Supra TT.

Nice job in hiding the ballasts in the headlight assembly. Guess I have a new project in the works :)

I installed mine exactly as shown above, but routed the wires through the rubber grommet. Everything looks and works great (after a little difficulty with one of the original bulbs). Install is completely invisible and I couldn't be happier with the light output.

I don't completely understand your question, but let me see if this answers it:

Bulb is where the old one was & I ran wires through the rubber grommet (as opposed to drilling the cap).
Both ballast & relay are inside the 'basket'
12V battery connection can go through the bottom of the bucket, along the existing wire harnesses to attach to the battery from the back side. When installed, you can't tell anything is there (even with the hood open).

Make sense?

Hey guys, I am in the process of doing this. How did you guys route the wires of the relay inside the headlight assembly? Is there a hole you route it through?

I know what he's talking about. If you checkout this photo album HERE you can see that I disconnected the wire from the relay. There was only one wire I needed to do this with, it was the wire that detected 12v from the 9006 socket. So what I did was I took an awl and poked a hole through the grommet that goes on the weather cap, then I cut the wire near the plug and I put the wire through the hole that I created in the grommet. Then I soldered the wire back together and plugged it back into the relay. You'll have to check out the pictures and it will make more sense.

Oh, I understand now.

The short answer, I didn't have to do any of that! I cut off the Autolamps rubber grommet, and routed the 2 wires to the bulb through the center Acura grommet. I tapped the relay positive outside by the basket connector and used heat shrink.

sorry guys for my lack of clarity. I already have this whole thing installed. I installed the bulb with the wires going through rubber grommet as well without drilling the weather cap.

However, now I am relocating my ballasts. But the problem is all my wiring is outside of the headlamp basket, including the relay. I think I have to just undo the whole install and start from scratch. Just wanted to ask where y ou guys routed all the wiring from the basket out....i.e. At this time I only have one wire (yellow) which goes from the relay and routes through a hole in the basket. I think this is where I route (and you guys routed) all the wiring through.

Thanks for your help guys, just need to take it all appart and start over.
