I have a many questions so be gentle.

I am currently the proud owner of a very hot 300zx TT ,I have owned and loved for 7 years but feel I have outgrown it . I went to Brisbane on the weekend to test drive a 91 red auto NSX and fell in love at first sight . Only problem is it would not start so obviously I scratched that car off the list and it was Auto , I am really looking for a manual . Being such a rare thing in Aus I am having a hard time finding what I want .
Here is my criteria

Under 150k kms and had 100k service
$40000 or under (yeah right)
A manual
any year model
any colour but gray (I live in a foggy place  )

I have looked on all of the online car sales but all too expensive is there other places that I don't know about ?
I would like to do my own work on the NSX is this advisable . I have rebuilt my ZX engine from the ground up ( very complex ) so I am very mechanicaly minded , from what I have seen the NSX looks comparatively basic I think
Is there any traps I should be aware of buying an Aus delivered car , recalled parts , etc ?
I am so peeved the Aus government have changed the 15 year old import law , I could import a 92 from japan for 20k AUD
It does not seem likely that prices will fall in the short term ,so would I be wasting time waiting for another year for a purchase ?

Here is the one that wouldnt start.

Thanks

Welcome!

There's a lot of Australia-specific info in the International forum, you might get better answers to local questions there.

If you find a seller who is in a hurry, you might get lucky. To find a car in good condition I think you will probably have to change one of your criteria - either settle for an auto, high km / less than perfect cosmetic, or increase the budget a little.

Doing your own work on the NSX is a great idea if you have the tools, time and mechanical ability. The service manual is available for download here on Prime, there's a ton of information in the forums, and people here are very helpful. But unless you're planning some major mods - there just isn't all that much that should need doing!

The only major "trap" with regard to parts is the Snap Ring issue - again all the info you need on that is on this site, together with a Buyer's Checklist of things to check when inspecting a NSX.

To try to answer your last question, I've been watching the Aussie NSX market for 2.5 years, prices haven't plunged in that time. Especially when you have specific criteria, if you find the right car I'd grab it, otherwise you could be waiting a long time for the next one. Anyway I went through the Aussie NSX-buying process a year ago... holler if I can help!

Thanks , I really did like the red one in Brisbane it was imaculate , he may have came down to $45000 , it really depended on how I liked the auto , but the damn thing didn't start so nuts to that .

I hate the fact my ZX is Auto it just can't handle the 420 RWHP , and knowing me I get the upgrade bug and definately would mod the NSX eventually . So how does the Auto drive ??? Can you get a Shift at Will kit Mod with the paddles on the steering wheel , this may change my mind on the Auto decision .

Sweet Chuck

What about this car?

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/HONDA/NSX/details.aspx?Model=NSX&__Nne=20&__N=4294965322+0+4294964914+834+285+257&Make=HONDA&State=All%20States&silo=1003&state_id=0&distance=25&Cr=6&seot=0&__sid=10F2E6702140&R=464071&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&trecs=9

Kms higher but shouldn't be a problem is the car has been looked after.

It's been for sale for a while so the price may still be negotiable

Yeah I have been pondering this one , being a city car ,what do you think of the Kms clocked up on this though (stop start) , and the wheels would have to go ASAP

It makes me wonder why its been on the market for so long , would have to fly down to Sydney to really know . May give them a bell .

If you plan on modding it, don't get the automatic.

And all the usual advice on NSXs applies to ones Down Under - such as being aware of the need for scheduled maintenance. For example, the timing belt and water pump should be replaced every 90K miles or 6 years (with the 3.2-liter, they increased it to 105K miles or 7 years). This can cost USD1500 if it needs it.

you could always move to japan and do a private import:biggrin:
