[AUS] Saturday, September 20: Hill Country Drive to Drive-In Movie Theater

I hope a couple NSXs from this forum will join us. It's gonna be a lot of fun! Everyone had a blast at the last drive-in run.

*****************************
Event: RBTSOYP*- Trent's Pre-Baby Run for the Hills
brought to you by the Tourmaster

Why: Trent’s wife is having a baby soon

Purpose: As a first line of defense, Bull Riders regardless of the make and model sports cars they own, steadfastly support Trent during this time which will steadily go from difficult to irrational to insane. Our drive will support Trent as he runs for the hills to escape the approaching torturous times ahead.

Date: Saturday, September 20, 2008

Length: 280 miles of some of the best hill country roads in Texas.

Program:
11:15 am Meet at Rudy’s in south Austin
12:20 pm Driver’s meeting
12:35 pm Begin run for the hills
As usual, route is completely new and entirely different from the SPEED RACER 5000 RALLY. There will be two breaks along the way.
7:00 pm Arrive at drive-in movie theater in Gatesville
At the movie theater we will enjoy an unhealthy dinner including greasy-but-delicious pizzas, hotdogs, nachos, popcorn, and assortment of drinks.

For those who want healthy food, we'll do a dinner run to nearby restaurants once we get to the drive-in and park our cars in front of the screen. Of course, you may also bring your own dinner if you like.

For more information about the drive-in movie theater experience, click here.

RSVP: Please RSVP here or via PM to ensure a route map will be ready for you.

*****************************
OTHER DETAILS
Leader: Participants should be ready to take turns leading the group at whatever pace they like. With 10 or more cars in the group over 280 miles, there will be several drivers who won’t need to lead.

Movies: TBA. Click here to see current movies and showtimes. They change every week.

Meeting Place: Click here for map.

Cost: Free

After the Rally and Movie(s): The first movie should end by 10:15 pm and the second movie should end by midnight. You may drive back to Austin (90 miles, maps will be provided) or stay overnight in one of two places in Gatesville, The Regency Inn or the hotel which used to be the Holiday Inn Express until last June (I don't have any contact info). There will probably be a few who head back to Austin as a group and some will stay overnight in Gatesville.

Safety: Since the route has not been closely reviewed for road hazards, the general character of this drive will be at a less-than-Stampede level.

Technical Inspection: Given the less-than-Stampede level of this drive, no technical inspection is required. However, a technical inspection is highly recommended. You never know what can break on your car at the worst time. Click here to download the technical inspection form used for the SPEED RACER 5000 RALLY.

Liability Waiver: Print, read, and sign it before the event day and then give it to the Tourmaster at the drivers meeting. Click here to download the waiver form for the SPEED RACER 5000 RALLY.

Driving Rules: All participating drivers are required to follow all Stampede rules, except those pertaining to technical inspections. Click here for a list of driving rules. Pay close attention to rules #17-29.

Radio: For your safety each car is required to have a Motorola-compatible radio. Radios will be tested before the drive starts.

Tires: For your safety minimum 4/32 inch of tread depth is required. Tires will be inspected before the drive starts. Cars which fail the inspection will not be allowed to participate.

Driver’s License & Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance: Please bring a photocopy of both of these documents to give to the Tourmaster.

All drivers and passengers: Have to be 25 years of age or older.

Click here for a more detailed description of the qualifications.

Bump for drive this Saturday. Eight cars have RSVP'd as coming. FYI.

I hope a couple cars from this forum will join us. Come join us for a great time of driving in the hill country.

Well, at least 10 drivers were ready to support Trent during his run for the hills, but, unfortunately, due to Hurricane Ike, I have rescheduled Trent's run to the following Saturday, September 20. Same time, same place, same program. And the promise of better weather, more cars, and better movies. I wasn't too happy with the movie choices for this weekend, so I contacted the owner of the drive-in movie theater. To my pleasant surprise, he said he would try to get movies more to our liking. He is looking forward to having us.

If you love driving and seek awesome camaraderie, come join us for a great driving experience followed by a great movie-watching experience under the stars.

P.S. I've edited the header in the original announcement to reflect the new date but the change doesn't seem to register for the thread in general.

Do you feel the difference?
Hurricane Ike has brought a cool breeze through Texas this week.
Temperatures are running below averages for this time of year.
The throttle seems more responsive than I can remember in a long time.
The A/C is no longer robbing me of power.
And the engine is loving the cool dry air. I’m sure the turbos do, too.
Gasoline smells better than ever. Exhaust sounds are more satisfying.
The windows are down and I feel a load of stress off of my shoulders.
I just don’t want to stop driving.

Do you feel the same way? More of this weather is in the weekend forecast. Don’t you just want to get out and enjoy it? If you do, then come join Trent’s “support group” this Saturday for an exhilarating drive through the hill country followed by the unmatched experience of movie-watching under the stars.
