I am looking to lease a new S5. Anyone have any experience with these?

For 2011 they are putting in the new 333HP V6 SC, vs the 4.2 L V8. I drove the new motor in the S4 (6speed) and I honestly thought it was better than the V8 (with an auto), but I am not 100% sure. When I drove the 6-speed S5 and 6-speed S4, they felt much similar. Fuel economy is also much better as is aftermarket tuning. They are already seeing 400+HP with minor mods on the V6 SC.

Thoughts?

I like the S5's design a lot, but my wife thinks it's too feminine. Most likeloy when I get tired of my M3 I'll try and pick up one of these:

RS5 would be great, but no idea if it is coming here any time soon and it will most likely be too pricey for me.

I drove the M3 and I wasn't impressed. The S5 was a much nicer car. The M3 is faster, but that's it.

I prefer the V8 over the SC V6. Audi went to the V6 to get better MPG not for better performance. I have a 2004, just sold a 2006, and I have test driven the new V6 SC. Engine wise I prefer the 04 over all of them I don't know if it's the gear ratios or the engine performance the 04 has a ton of low end torque. The V8 has one of the badest exhaust notes out there. If I was you and were looking to purchase a new S4, I would look at a used RS4. I picked up a High milage RS4 very cheep the other day and that thing is insane.

The S5 has a better interior but I drove it after driving my M3 and it's definitely more civilized. It's slower and the handling felt like a boat. Surprisingly, the ride on the S5 is rougher than the M3. Fuel economy is very similar to my M3. Ride quality can be fixed with KW V3s as we did on my friend's S5.

It's a great looking ride but I never regretted not getting it. I seriously considered it when it was hard to get. But I'd probably consider a used one later on after if it can prove itself to be reliable.

I read that the RS5 will not be making it stateside. Love the seats in that car...

I've seen a lowered black S5 with gold spoked rims around the Tustin area. Looks like it has a body kit or something so that its not the same as a standard S5. I can't help but stare at it and admire it.

Bad advice. Just look up "carbon buildup" for the RS4 and other FSI Audi engines.

If you need any proof, APR has dyno's of stock 2010 S4's putting down as much power as RS4's.

Having owned 2 4.2 Audi's I can honestly tell you the new 3.0 v6 is way better. The sound isn't there, but the power is. It's WAY faster. There's exhausts out there, and of course with any FI engine, it's just waiting for mods to open the sucker up.

I have 700 miles on my 2010 S4 and I love it.... it really is an amazing car... get the Sport Diff. (Think Acura SH-AWD)

I thought the v6 really felt faster. That thing just hauls. I like the look of the S5 so much more than the S4 though, so I want the S5.

How do you think it compares to the pull of your SC NSX?

Some are saying the V6 is underrated at 333HP. What do you think?

There's been multiple dyno's of stock 2010 S4's putting 310 to the wheels (awd) stock. That puts the car closer to 360-370 crank.

The S5 Cabriolet has the 3.0 engine... beyond that, I can also tell you that the S5 is about $8k more than the S4. It sounds like the new S5's will all be 3.0's, but I'm not positive on that. Wait a year?

As for pull... you're talking about my 3800lb S4 with 310 hp at the wheels compared to my ~2900lb NSX with 373hp to the wheels. Off the line, the S4 feels wicked quick, but there's no doubt in my mind that my NSX would kill it. That being said, I feel pretty damn confident in the S4 as a daily driver...stoplight to stoplight, there isn't much that can take it, at least in the 4 door category. AWD and that much power/torque make it VERY quick to 60/80mph. Sure, you'll lose to other rwd cars eventually, but stout power with AWD makes it really bite hard off the line. On top of that, the car itself is really well balanced... very easy to drive and very confidence inspiring. Technology +1 in this case.

The one 1/4 mile time that I saw for the S4 was 13.2 at ~106... not bad without any mods. I believe the S5 does pretty close to the same... but remember, the S5 is basically maxed out, and the S4 has mucho mod potential... it also (with the 3.0) gets 28mpg on the highway. Something the V8 could never do.

My B6 S4 and my C5 S6 were both rated at around 340Hp with their 4.2 V8's. Every dyno I ever saw showed that to be around 260-270 hp to the wheels. That feels about right to the 310 the new S4 is putting down. (my new S4 feels much faster than my old modded B6 S4) Audi WAY underrated this car... and personally they OVERRATED their last RS4... or the carbon buildup is killing most cars. Do a search on that... the S5 I believe is FSI and may be prone to the same issues... it's a major one. Apparently Audi has fixed the carbon issue on the new S4, but honestly, it's still open for debate.

A used RS4 will run you close to the same price as a new S4. Mine came in at around $54k without tax. I've seen used RS4's in the mid 50's... After reading about the carbon issues, there really was no comparison. Plus the B8 is slightly larger and in general a better balanced car. (the smaller V6 sits further back and makes the car less nose heavy)

I hope that helps... I chose the S4 because I wanted 4 doors and I loved the engine. In all honestly, if I were say, single... and didn't need the 4 doors, I'd probably still get the S4 over the S5 based solely on the engine... it's that much of a gem.

Yes, it helps a lot. I think I should wait for the V6.

Did you try the S-tronic 7-speed? If so, what did you think of it compared to the manual?

I did not... wasn't really interested in it. One of the reasons I don't own a GT-R. Not my cup of tea... yet. :)

From what I've heard though, it's pretty awesome. Those who have it love it. Make sure you get the Sport Diff. That's the major add on that makes a huge difference.

Gas mileage isn't as great as they advertise... at least I haven't seen it yet. I'm getting 15-17mpg in mostly city driving. I think my 4.2's did about 14mpg doing the same route back and forth to my office. Hwy is supposed to be a lot better, but I haven't been able to test it out yet.

I'm only at 800 miles, so it's probably not broken in yet... and the winter gas is always crappier.

My next mod will be an exhaust and then a chip... oh and short shifter and some rims... oh and I should probably tint it and.... (aww crap, here we go again)

BTW- like I said before, the S5 Cabriolet is the 3.0 V6. If you really can't wait......
