I just spoke with USAA and informed them about a change in address and to review my policy. Once I said that I was moving to San Diego this weekend, the representative said that there is currently a coverage suspension in the San Diego area due to the fires.

So, if you believe your vehicles to be in danger, fair warning! Take out additional insurance or see if you can cover it under your homeowners (not likely) or under your existing supplemental insurance (if exist and more likely).

Holy cow that sucks. I wonder if that is the same for other insurance companies. I have USAA for everything and although I do not live in an area at high risk for wildfires, I am concerned that an insurance company would suspend coverage without notifying it's policy holders.

I hope that everyone who lives in So. Cal is safe and far away from the fires.

I'm not sure they can modify coverage without notification of policy holders, IMO

Well, then what's the point of having insurance??!!??
This sounds like a Seinfeid episode-

Agent: Can I help you? Name please?

Jerry: Seinfeld. I made a reservation for a mid-size.

Agent: Okay, let's see here. I'm sorry, we have no mid-size available at the moment.

Jerry: I don't understand, I made a reservation, do you have my reservation?

Agent: Yes, we do, unfortunately we ran out of cars.

Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That's why you have the reservation.

Agent: I know why we have reservations.

Jerry: I don't think you do. If you did, I'd have a car. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation and that's really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody can just take them.
