Samson, I think you are the only one that I know of that actually did a JDM HID conversion for the NSX. (if there are others please feel free to chime in.)

Can you let me know what was involved? I know there was alot of debate with regards to the beam pattern, wiring, price, and whether it will be a bolt on affair.

Would like to hear your take on it since you actually went ahead and did the conversion.

Here is an old topic:

Thanks,

Not a surprise, as both Japan and HK are RHD cars.

Is it a "simple" bolt-on for LHD (US-spec) cars ?

In the owner's gallery, Samson's "old" car is LHD.

Samson, what sort of re-wiring did it entail? Any need to cut and splice anything?

Also, did the beam pattern hinder your driving at night? Did it hinder oncoming traffic?

Thanks,
Ryan

Anyone?

I'm about to embark on a trip to Japan. Would love to get a set of these JDM HID lights, but would like to know what kind of rewiring is needed before I order.

I'm aware of the beam pattern differences, but I'm planning on making this car into a track only car anyway.

Thanks,
Ryan

Then why not just take the stock headlights out entirely? Or, if you need them (for enduro racing?) then leave them in; they weigh less than the HID systems. I can't imagine why you would want to put in HID with the wrong beam pattern on a track only car.

ryan. i wanted to email you, but your don't take emails through the site. Can you please call me at 949-858-2461 when you get a chance. Thanks

I'm actually planning on importing this car to japan at some point in time since I'm planning on buying a house there. So after track duty here in the US I would like it to be my daily driver in japan.

Well, there are some things I need to figure out before I do this. Hopefully I'll have all my questions answered when I'm actually there.

....but the car would still be LHD, thus optimizing the HID's optics for the person in the US passenger/Japanese driver's seat. Plus, IMHO it would be a lot more economical for you to sell the NSX in the US and purchase another in Japan. The JDM NSXs will probably be lower mileage, lower cost, and in better condition than your track rat. Of course, it will lack the sentimental value.

This is exactly what I need to figure out in japan. The cost/benefit of importing my LHD or buying a new one. Just keeping my options open. With regards to mileage, I only have 1,800 miles on my '01 NSX.
