Arnold and the Car TAX

DMV Fee Refunds

The LA Times stated those billed but not yet paid can reduce the bill by 66% and send in. They will bill you for any difference without penalty if you were reasonably close. Those who already paid the inflated amount will get refunds next year.

Okay, I found these:

(L.A.Times)
Motorists Can Pay Lower Fee Immediately

While bills sent out by the Department of Motor Vehicles will reflect the higher rate through Dec. 19, as state computers are reconfigured, consumers can pay the lower tax if they do their own math.

Department spokesman Bill Branch said people with bills reflecting the higher rate should just send in one third of the vehicle license fee amount due. He cautioned, however, that any other fees on their bills must be paid in full. Beginning Friday, a special calculator will be available online at http://www.dmv.ca.gov to assist the public.

Branch said drivers who receive bills at the higher rate and wish to recalculate the amount they owe must send their payments in by mail if the money is due before Dec. 19. While the computers at the DMV are being reprogrammed, drivers who pay online or at field offices will still be charged the higher rate; the difference will be refunded later.

Drivers who have paid their bills at the higher rate, in effect only since Oct. 1, will be mailed refunds sometime in early 2004.

Car dealers, meanwhile, have been authorized to begin billing the car tax at the lower rate.

Vehicle License Fee Notice

Governor Schwarzenegger has signed Executive Order S-1-03 rescinding the Vehicle License Fee (VLF) increase that went into effect October 1, 2003.

Customers who have paid the full amount will automatically receive a refund by mail beginning in early 2004.
Customers who have not already paid their registration renewal may calculate their lower fees by taking the VLF line from the billing notice multiply it by .675 and subtract that amount from the total fees due. Round this figure to the nearest whole dollar.
Submit the new amount by mail to the address on your billing notice or:
P.O. Box 942885
Sacramento, Ca 94285-0001

At this time, the reduced registration amount can only be accepted by mail.

Please remember to pay your registration on time to avoid penalties.

Your right but reality is something gets cut or taxed elsewhere to make up for it. A portion of the increased funds was to pay the CFD and USFS shortfall. Based on recent events do you want to cut firefighters? Very tough , but his "slap not kiss" attitude is refreshing. Let's hope for the best.

I agree with coolnsx but damn it, the government creates these stupid fiscal messes and expects all of us to pay for their mistakes!

Why don't they vote to cut their own spending and paychecks to help out?

I don't know about you, but if I heard that the politicians were willing to sacrifice something of themselves, paying a little extra tax would be easier to swallow.

Off my soapbox now

:)

I hate to say this in general chat, but, I hear Arnold is not taking his pay from the state since he doesn't need it. True or not?

Taxes won't solve the situation, which he realizes. I hope he brings his gatling guns to bear on the wasteful programs that cause the rates in the first place.

4 years in a row, we're being taxed greater than the national average, not by much, but with the population of the state the way it is, the condition of the state's finances, I hope he can stomach the abuse for cutting the fat from the budget.

True, he announced that we would not take the +/- $150K salary in the first year of office. :)

Heck, this guy will not take the pay, and he will converts his H2 Hummer into an electric motor vehicle.

The gov't needs to stop spending and hiring. Taxes are a burdon we all must sacrifice but its the duty of the politicians to control spending and maintain a fiscally responsible budget!!

they had a documentary on him and he has so much $$$ coming in. He is worth an estimated 800 million+

800 Mil from what? I know he does alot of bodybuilding sponsors and fitness stuff, but doesnt make as many movies these days?

ss_md, you are exactly right. But know one with that platform ever gets elected. The change needs to start in our generation IMO.

coolnsx - The change needed to started with the recall. We voters needed to show the politicians that we as constituents aren't going to take their crap anymore! It may have cost the taxpayers millions to recall Davis but it was money well spent. Californian's put their party affilations aside and pressed forward in getting an incompetent Govenor out of office. Politics will not be the same for years to come. :D :D All we can hope for is that Arnold and future Govenors will remember the recall and will run on the straight and narrow!
