All REAL!

Assuming for the moment that you are right how about some guesses as to the locations of these landscapes? Just curious as to where people think these were taken.

No reason they can't all be real. The shadows line up, there are no obvious disconnects. The only thing that looks out of place is the small section of ice in the middle-right of the first picture -- however the fact it looks out of place is more likely the proof that it is real!

Very good comments cokerRat. But i'll leave you all hanging just a little longer. (not to be cruel... just give others a chance to guess) :D

Sharpness doesn't necessary mean it's fake. Real photo's are frequently photoshopped up to remove imperfections. (i don't know if these have been photoshopped, but it's very possible)

lemansnsx : The top photo is Mt.Rainier. Thanx for not spoiling it. (you should run for position of grammar/spelling nazi :D)

Why, yes, so it is... but I think you mean Rainier ;)

Here is a shot from before the fire that destroyed all of the trees: (edit: seems he's over his transfer limit, sorry about that...)

I knew the first one was Mt Rainier as I was born and raised in Seattle. (the side rock jetting formation is on the other side when looking from Seattle) also on XP wallpaper!!!

The 2nd looks like its from the Alaskan mountain range...(big guess)

3rd is Crater lake

4th is anyone guess but Ill say the cascade range:eek:

...And The Answer Is...

...And The Answer Is...

ALL THESE FILES ARE FAKE!!! THEY WERE GENERATED WITH A FREE COMPUTER PROGRAM CALLED TERRAGEN!!!

Hopefully some of you are as amazed as I was. I've seen CG like this before, but some these renderings fool my trained eye. So if you guessed they were real, don't be embarrassed!

Still don't believe me? You can try this program FREE for yourself here:

http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/

There's even a Mac version for Jimbo. ;) It's quite easy to use and most importantly... it's free. :) Unlike alternative $$$ programs like Bryce3D.

Here is what Terragen can do in less than 2 minutes without reading the manual or changing much of anything in the way of settings:

I didn't know that this program existed until Neo started this thread yesterday but I very quickly found all of the poll pictures on Terragen's site. ;)

Well you sure had me fooled! The only image that raised my suspicion was #2; I just couldn't see how the base of the mountain could be covered in snow without any perceptible change in elevation.

Pretty cool program, I bet they use similar technology to generate alien landscapes for sci-fi movies!

No thanks! We have enough language police around here. BTW, thanks for starting this Terragen thread - I don't have time to learn it myself but some of the online galleries have some really cool stuff in them!

yeah,,,,,i KNEW those were all fake!!!

yeah sure!!! now that I have my contacts in!!!

for sure!!! fake as can be!!!

Now that im sober, I can see the fakes!!!!

I had something in my eye the first time I saw them....definatly fake!!!

Those new fangled programs scare me......I remember when you could tell when pics were FAKE...........man im getting old!!!LMAO
:D

Hey, I remember when you could actually trust that the car on the cover of "C&D" or "R&T" was really the color that it appeared to be and had been photographed in the location that it seemed to be in...
Now I'm afraid that unless you took a picture yourself you have no confidence at all in what and where it is.

I voted for #4.

It was between that and #1 but I remember when I was in Alaska, there were breathtaking views like that's common everywhere.
