Are my dyno results normal?

The other day, I finally had the opportunity to have my 2001 Coupe dynoed. It was an interesting experience, and Gary at Street Flight in Mesa (AZ) was a great guy to work with. He explained the entire process carefully, and I was facinated to see how the dyno functioned.

Anyway, the test was performed on a Dynojet 248H, and we did three pulls with me at the throttle. The tests were almost perfectly consistent, with final horsepower at 254 and Torque at 197.

My question: Are these numbers within an acceptable range? I was hoping to see around 260 hp based on some other plots I've seen here on Prime, but I assume that there are slight variations between dynos and calibrations. My car is completely stock, except for an RM cat back exhaust. Wheels and tires are stock, test was performed in 4th gear. My car has about 6000 miles on it.
Any thoughts?

Your numbers seem appropriate. Generally the rule of thumb is that out of any five of the same production car engine, two will be slightly more powerful than the norm, two will be slightly less powerful than the norm, and one will be right on target. With the NSX I'd imagine the tolerances are higher, but don't forget that a single person hand-assembled your engine from start to finish all by his lonesome at the Tochigi plant.

Plus with the inevitable inaccuracies of a dyno run in general, comparing your numbers to other posted numbers here isn't practical.

You have a 2001 coupe?? What color? Based on your avatar, I'm guessing red. Do you have black top too? At this time, I only know of one 2001 coupe, and it's a white/ivory with black top.

Nimbus,

Yes -- I have a red Coupe with black interior and black roof. I searched the world over for it -- found it in Redwood City, CA in December. I believe that there were three built, a silver, which appeared in Car and Driver Magazine as a side bar in the 0-100-0 test, a white which was on the east coast, and mine.

Hi DeHaldaswerth,

I only have a RM exhaust on my 2000 and
dyno'd the following:

1st pull: 264.4 RWHP. TQ: 201.9
2nd pull: 267.0 RWHP. TQ: 204.0
3rd pull: 266.3 RWHP. TQ: 204.7

I hope this helps!

Take care,

TB

Also of consideration is our "great" MBTE fuel here in Arizona. I don't know what you had in the car for gas, but I do know that our gas is crap. It is really upsetting to see the state "get tough" on vehicle emissions, then you see 70's ford pickup trucks on the freeway with blue/black smoke pouring out the tailpipe. Check the tags, you guessed it, registered outside of maricopa county (if it is registered at all...)

*rant off*

We should plan a Phoenix NSX gathering! We seem to have a bunch of cars! I never see much going on in the Southwest forum...
