In light of this thread, has anyone on the board taken the ARC plunge over the past few months and would like to give the rest of us a review regarding loudness and sound quality?

I've read the posts in the board archives from a year ago regarding the ARC Ti but there hasn't been much talk since that time.

Count me in. The weight savings are too attractive. 99 NSX-Z and I am only interested in the standard tips (i.e., one per side)

The ARC exhaust is indeed quite nice. Very good craftsmanship, and a nice deep melody for an exhaust note. You pay dearly for the weight savings though.

TAITEC has created a new exhaust using their own new stainless alloy that is only 4 lbs heavier than the ARC exhaust, and will be sold at about 1/3 the price. Similar to the ARC concept of using a stronger material to allow thinner exhaust walls to reduce mass, the new TAITEC exhaust clicks in at only about 16 lbs (ARC is about 12 lbs). We'll be announcing the details tomorrow. The exhaust note, which I made recordings of last week, will be posted as well. Very similar to the ARC exhaust with a bit more refinement.

Regards,
-- Chris

Hi, Titanium and SS are different. Titan exhaust is a new generation exhaust. it can not be compared with others...
Remember, ARC titan exhaust is contructed with all titanium !!!
I am sure it will be much lighter than SS
For those of you who want to know the sound of Titan, I will post sound file later..
Thank you for supporting "NUMBER9"
Please email me your information...Name and year of your NSX
Thank you

I'm very happy with my ARC. Good pitch. Great tone; not too deep and not too high. Also sounds real good under deacceleration/falling revs. I've added the ARC air induction box and the exhaust/box combination sounds great. It has an awesome harmonic note.

Chris isn't the exhaust you're talking about this one:
http://www.scienceofspeed.com/products/exhaust_airflow_products/NSX/TAITEC/ Lightweight_Center-Exit/

It looks great, but the two big negatives I see from that page are again a rear-valence mod needed to run the center exhaust tips, and it possibly being as loud as the standard Taitec center-exit exhaust, which is deafening.

Also on that note, the SoS website is really great, leagues ahead of Mark's rediculous navigation scheme, but I'd like to offer a suggestion. Why not have a nice comparison chart for the exhaust db ratings you offer like you do now for their weight ratings?

For someone like me that isn't into all the boy-racer-see-how-loud-my-car-can-be nonsense and just wants to save weight while possibly improving the sound, I'd love to be able to see how they all compare against each other in loudness.

As an example, how do the Fujitsobo Ti and ARC Ti compare in overall loudness? No one knows. And now the new Taitec exhaust you mentioned looks great too, but how does IT compare in loudness to the ARC Ti and Fujitsobo Ti? This is the dilemma.

Raw opinions are nice, and the forum is great, by I'd like to see a better system of exhaust loudness evaluation than the now standard "louder than the RM" or "less loud than the RM." lol

Right cojones, which is why my above post said I'd like to see a tabulation for db or noise level just like the tabulation for weights that already exists.

No, different exhaust. Please stay tuned for details tonight (too many things, too little time). The new exhaust, the GT Lightweight is a parallel-exit style exhaust that has one of the better exhaust notes I've heard for street cars along with weight savings that are near Titanium levels. There is nothing "more advanced" with the ARC Titanium exhausts other than a very strong metal is used which results in thinner walls and less mass. I'm not saying one is better than the other, just providing additional information.

Here are two ARC sound clips:
1. http://www.scienceofspeed.com/products/exhaust_airflow_products/NSX/ARC/exhausts/arc1.mp3
2. http://www.scienceofspeed.com/products/exhaust_airflow_products/NSX/ARC/exhausts/arc2.mp3

We're working on providing a spreadsheet that overviews the features of the exhausts we sell to better aid customers in deciding what is best for them.

Some manufactures provide dB ratings (if you read, the Fujitsubo exhaust page actually has the dB ratings). However, we feel that different manufactures measure in different ways, leading to different results.

The only accurate way to get consistent data would be to test each and every exhaust, which is not possible. As a compromise, we have decided to use a subjective rating scale based on what our "tuned" ears tell us.

As a side note, we received a new shipment of the JGTC Parallel exhausts. Please phone 877-863-4520 and ask for Chris or Ryan if you'd like some more info.

Cheers,
-- Chris

In lieu of db ratings which I agree would be nearly impossible to collect data on, I'd glady accept a "tuned ears" webpage that rates/ranks overall loudness or at least offers general guidelines regarding noise levels.

Thanks for the heads up Chris, the new lightweight Taitec exhasut sounds promising...particularly its price tag.
