Anyone seen or use the Comptech 13'' Powertec Brake system?

This is the kit that uses the 4 gold colored indy styled calibers. I was wondering if anyone had the kit and their opinons on it. Any comments would be appreciated. I had my HRE wheels made to clear all aftermarket brake kits including this one and I am seriously considering this kit.

including the price, for which you could purchase and install a supercharger and have a couple grand left over depending on SC choice :P. i have no other useful input

Lud,
Can you say that this kit is worth the money over the Lotus style kit? Also are you using a proportioning valve with the kit? Also, are you running the slotted or cross drilled rotors? Finally, do you have any pics you can email me at [email protected]

Thanks Lud

I've driven NSX with several big brake setup available out there. The only one I haven't tested so far is the tar-ox kit.

So far, the Comptech brakes out perform any of them. And I tested them in the track!!! If I have the money, I would get them. They worth every penny IMO. And I have Porsche big red kit in my car.

Thanks guys, this is the kit I am going to buy in the very near future. However, maybe someone can help me try to figure out why Comptech raised the price on the cross drilled kit by $600 to $700 dollars. The didn't change the price on the grooved kit, which doesn't make sense. So to have the Powertec kit with the cross drilled rotors over the slotted rotors, Comptech asks for $830 more!!!! I called Brembo and they said if Comptech is using Brembo rotors then there is no justification for the price increase because the machining to cross drill the rotors is the same as it is to groove them. Is their different pads for grooved rotors over cross drilled? Also Lud, would you happed to have a part number for your rotors? Any comments would be appreciated.

Nice kit, but very expensive. I would recommend a proportioning valve to go along with it however if you do track events.

Remember your tires are just as important (if not more).

I would think getting/learning the most out of your OEM brakes at the track first would be good before you buy any serious brake mods... but I guess if you got a ton of money to burn, I guess you could do it for "looks". I'm really curious about information on durability and actual braking performance on the track when comparing all these aftermarket brake options.

How would one go about comparing the actual performance, reliability, and long term costs involved with these brakes?

I can't make a value judgement for someone else. There is no way around the fact that it is expensive.

Tell me what you want pictures of and I'll try to take some next week (it's supposed to rain all weekend here and sunlight is best for photos).

I do not know why the drilled rotors are more than the slotted offhand. I'd ask someone at CT. I'll look for the part # when I take the pictures.

jsottile - I should be able to do it this weekend. Is there anything in particular you want to see, or just overall pictures?

I would not do the crossdrilled unless you just have to have them. The cross drilling is only for looks and will increase the chance of cracks in the rotor when used hard. Go for slotted. Does just as well for venting hot gasses and does not impair the structure of the rotor.

I have tried cross-drilled rotors, slotted rotors, and solid-faced rotors. I have cracked all of them with track use. Based on my experience, all of them have about the same longevity and develop cracks at about the same rate.

I'm still waiting to see how long they last, but so far it looks like two-piece rotors have a better chance at not developing cracks than one-piece rotors (regardless of solid/slotted/drilled).

I have driven an NSX with all four corners fitted with the Brembo Indy calipers and ditto that Brembo Lotus calipers. I can tell no difference. In fact, I *think* each caliper uses the same pad.

Regarding a proportioning valve with F+R big brakes.....you really don't need one. In fact, Comptech doesn't include one as a standard component in their big brake kit. I achieve F-to-R brake bias by altering pad compounds. For daily street driving, I use Porterfield R-4S at both ends of the car. For track events, I swap the front pads out to Carbotech Panther Plus. Only under *really* hard braking have I locked the rears, and that was at the end of the front straight at Road America - lotsa speed in a SC'ed NSX. The reason I don't keep the CPP on for street driving is because they squeal at intermediate temperatures and they dust more than the Porterfields. Ironic - at the track, the CCPs dust less than the P-fields.

Thank you very much guys for the info. Compech has discountinued the kit with slotted rotors. So only the cross-drilled are available. Do any you guys have any installed pics of these indy-style calipers? Thanks!!!

I have the same calipers up front but with 12.5 in rotors which CT sells to fit stock 16 in wheels and after ~30 track days the calipers are fine no leaks and no rebuilds.I've warped plenty of rotors and it all comes down to a good bedding in procedure and luck. Also once you resurface(turn) crosdrilled rotors that proccess removes the chamfer around the holes and this accelerates the cracking imo.Anyway The gold Indy Brembos are fantastic and durable.Sos or Dali should sell these as a kit of thier own and demistify the price!

I have a picture of Lotus calipers and Indy calipers.....side-by-side comparison of two NSXs - both with Tecnomagnesio wheels - taken at NSXPO last year. Private me for your mailing info, by clicking on the "flying envelope" icon to the right of my avatar.
