Anyone own an M5 on prime?

I want to say that guy with the avatar of that F1 car infront of a house has a M5. Or maybe it was for sale? Maybe i'm an idiot? I don't know. Maybe someone remembers his username

Yeah, I know. Marc turned his wagon into a M5 clone. Rear diffuser, exhaust, wheels and badges. BMW did make 1 M5 wagon, but it wasn't imported into the states. BMW’s upcoming M5 wagon — which will likely receive the same high-revving, 507hp V10 as its sedan counterpart — was caught on camera pre-launch, during track testing. Notice the wheels don't match?

What type of problems did you have?
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess electrical gremlins?

Oh I wasn't trying to be a smart ass. That's just usually what I hear the problems are. But now that I read my post, I guess that's how I came across.

As ANYTIME mentioned, Im a longtime prime member and former NSX owner. Sold the NSX and got a 2003 M5 and a cheap racecar for the track. There are several other Prime members that also have M5's. Kenny (K2) comes to mind.. he actually had 2 M5's last I spoke to him. The car has it's quirks, but it is probably the best overall sedan I have ever driven, and I would highly recommend it as a daily driver.

ANYTIME: there is no M5 wagon.

Actually, they did make the older E34 ///M5 as a wagon:

For the 2000-2003 (E39) V8 ///M5's, there WAS only 1 (legitimate) wagon made:

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=49037&highlight=e39+touring

(our wagon is a 2003 540 ///M sport, which is the closest they came to an E39 ///M5 for regular production)

And, the word is that there will be an E60 (2005-up V10) ///M5 wagon, but it wont be coming to the US (because we Americans like SUV's, not wagons):

Any prime members can drop me a PM to discuss further. Love to talk cars!

I think Jindy has an M5. There is a red m5 in his avatar.

yeah, that's me. I love it, but it is a completely different feeling I get and response that I feel when driving it. It is nimble for a big car and has great torque. However, it doesn't have anywhere near the road feel of the NSX as expected and isn't as fun to drive in some ways for me at least. I know you can really test them on the track, but since I don't track my vehicles, I can't say what she has to offer when really pushed.

I would highly recommend getting one under warranty or CPO because I have experience some electrical gremlins as mentioned in earlier posts. Mods are extremely expensive and I thought the NSX was pricey. With an I/H/E, it sounds like a MONSTER and really mean. The shifter throws could be shorter too, but I know you can get a kit for that.

I love the luxury interior of the vehicle that has no options because everything is standard. (nice leather seats, heated, nav, suede head liner, etc.) It is nice to blow away most cars on the road that don't even know what an M5 is and have space to put groceries, kids, whatever. I don't get 1/5 the looks that I got in my NSX, but I don't really care about that though. Drive one and you will love it, but just in a different way. It is solid as a rock and drives like butter, except this butter punches you hard in the seat when you step on the gas. It is one damn fine automobile and the only other vehicles that make up my to do list are the MB E55 and 993 TT.

That is BMWs answer to the E55 AMG Wagon...and well MAYBE the SRT Magnum...500 HP at ur fingertips on a wagon...thats insane

I think it is out already. It's on their site anyway.

Thanks for your input jlindy! I must really consider getting one. Anyone ever drove the new M5 yet? Or is that even out on the market?

There is a two year waiting list and you'll drop about 90k sticker. A lot of people prefer the older body style, but love the 100HP increase to 500.

Interestingly enough, the new V10 has around the same displacement as the old V8, and around the same max torque as as the old V8......it just has a higher redline, thus more HP.

Add I-drive and that hideous body style, and the E39 V8 M5 is looking like a real classic!

I have a 2001 M5. As Marc said, the car has its quirks. I think you need to drive one. Really drive it like on a track. I recommend you get a ride with the BMWCCA member at Button willow. I am sure you would be impressed!
The car is a Beast!!!!

Feel free to pm me and ask any questions.
One must on the M5 is the getting a short shifter. Makes a world on differnce.

Kenny

p.s. Marc, I sold the 2000 M5 last month.

Hey Kenny:

Congrats on selling the 2000. It was a good deal im sure for a lucky buyer.

Anyone interested in getting one, this is probably a very good time. All the early adapters have their sights set on the new one (the E60), so there's a good selection of the E39's out there at suprisingly low prices.

As Kenny said, this car has to be driven to be appreciated. It is by no means basic daily transportation for the masses, but can be a fantastic all around daily car for the right kind of driver. It has been said that the M5 almost makes the enire idea of sports cars obselete!

Drive one!

I bought an '01 M5 9-11-01 and owned it for 2 years with ABSOLUTELY no problems at all. Loved the car. Modded it with AC Schnitzer short-shift kit, pedals, ACS catback, Dinan CAI, Brembo BBK, SSR 10" rears w/285/30 SO-3's, 9" fronts w/275/30 SO-3's, etc, etc. Every mod is $$$, (Dinan headers are $8K !!!!)

But, the car is THE best luxury sports sedan made, easily outhandles those MB E55's (no matter how fast they are), only thing that comes close is the Audi S6.

If I had more money, I would have it and my NSX, but wife and kids come first.

Get one, they've dropped in price, but buy CPO.

Got any pictures of this beast?

Sorry I have to disagree. The S6 is crap. Its a A6 with a different type designation and a ridiculous surcharge. The power-output is a joke and the car handles just like a diesel A6 in comfort mode.
