Well after fighting this economy for the last year i finally conceded defeat and closed my business last week. Aviation just isn't what it used to be and the prospects weren't looking good for the foreseeable future so i'm looking to try something different now.
I have some money saved so i'm not going to lose my house or NSX or anything any time soon but i like to stay busy and i would like to get back to work ASAP.
The problem is after owning my own business for several years now it seems i'm not really qualified to do much anymore except just that and it seems to risky a move to start a new business right now.

So in short, if you or your company is hiring then i'd greatly appreciate a heads up with a PM or email or something.

I really hate going public with something personal like this but i've seen the power of the people on this board and i never underestimate this boards ability to help a fellow member so i thought i would throw this out there and see what happens.

So please let me know if you guys hear of anything or know of something.

Thanks
Chris

Sorry to here about your worries Chris. I will keep my ears open. What's your Qualifed to do?

Ditto, I own a roofing company, and everyone and their dog has asked for or works for me......What can you do? maybe I can ask around.....

Well for the last 4 years i have run a company that guts large aircraft and sells off the parts, we have also done finish out work for construction projects. We made allot of money and stayed very busy in 2006 & 2007. In 2008 things started slowing down and now more than half of the companies we worked with are out of business or downsizing. Prior to that i owned a staffing agency for several years.

So basically my experience for the last 8 years has been to start companies and manage all aspects of them. I'm probably the oldest 30 year old person you will ever meet.

The type of jobs that i am seeking are telling me that i am over qualified for them and they fear that i will not stick around because of the huge decrease in pay and the jobs that i am being offered are basically 100% commissioned sales jobs that would have me swimming up river which i could have stayed doing with my own company if i wanted to keep fighting a losing battle with this economy.

I would be perfectly content for the forceable future with any salaried position doing any kind of work.

Right now I would be happy with any hourly position, but then again I'm much younger than you guys. I mostly do auto stuff and I'll be damned if anyone is hiring. Currently working landscaping for a friend of my fathers but its part time and I need to find something full time. Sorry to hear about your situation Greyhound, I'll keep my eyes open.

Chris,

Are you married to dfw? What about Houston or surrounding?

The Corpus Christi Army Depot is hiring people left and right. From what I hear if the war ended today, they would still have a backlog for 5+ years to catch up repairing all the helicopters. Not exactly the metroplex, but with aerospace work, would almost be a shoe in for a job down here.

I may have an opening for a Landscape lighting installer.
I can train as it is a specialised field.

Outdoor work hot/cold. Trenching involved. Work is intermittant now with the economy and seasonality.
And those are the good parts.

But its a job.

Our local news in NE Pa just did a piece on food auctions.Basicly there are these companies/enterprising individuals who rent local halls and auction off nearly expired food/sundries.I would guess they buy out of date stuff that regular chains have to clear from isles but don't have the time or resources to sell. You could see about getting in on that deal. The local auctions around here were packed.

Thanks guys. I was extended an employment offer today and i accepted. It is of course a pay cut from what i have been making but hey, its work.
I have been doing my own thing for so long that this should be a real load off my shoulders just being able to punch a clock at a big company for awhile. The benefits are nice too.

congrats, god luck with the new environment.
