I've always thought it would be fun to take the NSX to Mexico on a day trip for lobster at Puerto Nuevo.

Of course, I never actually had the balls to do it. Too much attention.

Plus the thought of fighting every inch of space with those crazy drivers on the way back across!

Not exactly Mexico, but I have taken my NSX into Miami-Dade. Anything south of the Broward-Dade county line is almost the same as entering an international country.

you have no insurance coverage in mexico.
Most carrier will not cover you if it is damaged or stolen outside of US.

The truth is if Im on vacation.. I wouldnt want to worry about my car in the parking lot.

If you want to drive.. You prob have a much better time going to Napa, or Santa Barbara. also Driving Hwy 1 on the north side is an adventure on its own..

I regularly drive to Mexico for business. You can buy insurance for your car, but the roads are terrible over there. Some areas are ok...some have giant potholes that will definitely cause damage...wouldn't recommend it.

Imagine negotiating the value/cost of your stolen or damaged NSX with the insurance company that covered your drive to Mexico. No thanks. I'll rent a POS, thank you.

The drive to Puerto Nuevo isn't bad, I know. It's a relatively straight drive with decent roads. But I still rent a car for the drive, and one that is not a target for thieves (think Suzuki Aerio).

I get a rental van when I go to mexico lol. Much sexier than my nsx

Look below... I keep my trips to a minimum!!!!!

In So Cal, I'd take the drive up to Idyllwild first... then drop into Palm Springs as fast as you can! (Almost lost my brakes for good in my Mustang!)

Mexico is no good for sports cars. The big F-250s do okay though.

I have the balls to do it, and have done it twice already.I've been going to Tijuana for years now, so I know my way around. Not recommended if its your first time down there, specially if you dont speak Spanish.

Should have gotten my windows tinted when i was down there. I had all the windows to my civic hb tinted down for $40 over 2 yrs ago, and its still holding up.

Never.

It's funny though, I have no problem and go to Mex all the time in my truck that cost me almost double what the NSX cost me.

I've taken my NSX there serveral times. Puerto Nuevo isn't the best place to take it because you will have to drive on a rocky unpaved road near Puerto Nuevo. Drive down the scenic toll highway to Ensenada. It is beautiful drive because it is alongside the cliffs with many curves. If you stay on the toll highway you should be alright. If you have time go to La Bufadora in Ensenada. The road isn't the best condition for your NSX, but the view and site will certainly make up for it.

The only time I had problems is coming back across to the US side. US Customs always...always stop my car in the middle of the line and check it. I think they just want to get closer to the NSX

I've been down in Rosarito and Ensenada about 4 times with my NSX.

I've seen many nice cars down there all the time BMW X5, BMV 7 series, Corvettes, Mercedes, etc. So all fear that you will be targeted because you drive a nice car is not as bad as people make it. You should always be on heightened alert when in a foriegn country to be safe.

It's true that you will need Mexican insurance from an authorized Mexican Insurance company. The Mexican authorities will not recognize US insurance even if you insurance says you are covered in Mexico, but Mexican police will alway recognize US $$$..aka bribe. It's at your risk if you decide to bypass the Mexican insurance, I do.

Good Luck.
