Anyone have a code reader for OBDII?

the reader's are expensive.....got a paperclip?

Under the dash on the glove box side is a small blue plug. just off the floor/firewall. The plug secures to something up there, but doesn't lead anywhere else.

Pull it down. With the car off insert the paperclip into each side of the plug.
Turn the car to on, and count the blinks of the check engine light.
If the code is two digits it should flash at a different pace for the first digit and then the second. To be sure, turn the car off and on a couple times til your confident you have the right code.

I think you can reference the shop manual in the FAQ to determine your problem, or just post it here and someone will chime in!

Got one Dave. I showed Stu the other day on his car, but of course his car did not have any codes.

Shoot me an E-mail and we can hook it up. Takes 2 seconds.

I figured you'd have one Garrick. CDN tire seems to have a nice one on sale and I suspect Ill be needing it a few times, so Im going to try to grab one today. If its not in stock or whatever, then Id love to swing by to clear the light and see the code.

Bilulan - THANKS - That is an awesome tip if someone is in a pinch!

Where can I find a list of codes? ANyone know?

Track day Monday and I dont want to waste anytime if something needs to be addressed.

Also, Im going to grab the reader at lunch today. How do I use it?

I just had that same annoying code come up from the gas cap not being completely tightend. Do I need to get this code erased? I've been driving for a week, and it hasn't went away yet.

I picked it up at CTire for $150 or something on sale.

Its been very handy for myself and for others around me looking to pull and erase codes.

If you want one yourself, Id wait until you get a code and then Id buy one. Otherwise, you may never need it. I wanted it around because of my tracking and the charger. Youre free to use mine whenever you want.

Thanks Dave. I have an engine light on now.....

I'd rather use the coder than the paper clip.....

Yours will work with a '96 right ?I think they came out with the OBDII in '92..

Itll work just fine Rick

You have a few choices if you want to borrow mine.

I live in the Beach. Come on by and we will pull that sucker.
I work downtown. Come on by and we will pull that sucker.
My car is at Erin Mills on Friday for some warranty work. I can leave the reader there for you to pick up. You can bring it home if you like or you can pull the code there if you like. Ill make sure that one of the guys there can assist you if you want, but its pretty easy to use.

Rick:

I had my ODBII reader with me on Sunday.
Should have said something, we could have read your code out while I was there.
