You’re right, the struts will be very easy to replace. There is a guy in Canada who rebuilds them for not very much money, which is the way I would go.
I replaced my coolant tank 2-1/2 years ago. I got it from Ray Laks in New York for $85.00. It only took a ½ hour to install.
I put on Top Speed Pro headers a year and a ½ ago and 17,000 miles ago. I paid $515.00 (delivered.) During the install (I did it my self) I also replaced my 141,000 mile O2 sensors. I paid $95.96 for both sensors (delivered.) I had a 22mm open end wrench from my old air cooled Porsche 356 days, and they came out without a problem. My car spent most of its life in Georgia where they don’t use salt on the roads. Everything underneath, even the very few iron parts show no corrosion. Your car may well be a Colorado car, so I wouldn’t anticipate any difficulty either.
The headers made an immediate and very noticeable difference in power, sound, and surprisingly, fuel mileage. When the Top Speed Pro headers were first marketed there were howls about them using flex joints, a la another brand that had earlier experienced a lot of failures. I took advantage of the wonderfully warm weather yesterday to change my oil and made a close inspection of the headers and the right CV joint. All is well with no signs of cracking in either the headers or the CV joint boot. As I said, I have 17,000 miles on the headers and they look to be in excellent condition, with the nice patina stainless steel takes on under heat.
Since I do all of my own maintenance (except for the timing belt/wp, etc, etc which I had Ron98 complete on a trip to California) I do not know of a local independent NSX mechanic. Why don’t you post that question in the Mile High section of Southwest US Region Forum. There are 20 or 30 of us who visit there from time to time.
I live in the Chesman Park section of Capitol Hill, a 25 minute walk from Weisco. PM (Private eMail on the Prime site) with your contact information and we’ll get the cup of coffee.
