Anyone familiar with this 1991? JH4NA1151MT000613

My home is within walking distance from this dealer. If anyone wants "remote eyes" on any of there, let me know.

I would love it if you could go out and do a quick inspect of the Red 1991 they have (Stock #: 3225). If they ask, talk to Paul, tell him you're there to give it a once over for Robert that he has been communicating with via email.

Thanks!

I went up to visit Paul at Weisco this morning to look at the red NSX. I drove it about 6 -8 miles on city streets and I-25 (up to very illegal speeds for very short distances.)

Here is the filled out check list for you:

Mechanical Inspection notes:

Some issues that would make me leary are:

1) would not let you look under the car
2) would not let you check transmission number.
3) CEL
4) Coolant bottle leak...not a big deal but would request them to repair it

Thank you Mark for having a look. It looks like, for the money, I should be able to find a more suitable car...

Thanks again.

Why don't you PM me, and we can talk further. None of these issues are deal breakers, necessarily.

FWIW, I'll be driving from Denver to Yellow Springs, OH via UP Michigan in early October. If you would like, and might be able to divert a little bit so we could have a cup of coffee somewhere in Northern Indiana or Ohio.

hey mskrotzki- I just bought this car yesterday for 28. Had it checked out at the Acura dealer on Havana. It is very clean, has had timing belt, water pump etc. and about 5 grand put into it over the last 4 years by previous owner. Dealer printed off all service done. Also inspected transmission and no snap ring issue. I also had check engine light come on during hi rev on test drive and shop pulled up code for both O2 sensors bad. Tech thought it was due to not having been driven much. Suggested to run a tank of gas through it and then see. Clutch is a little balky but hey, when buying a nearly 20-year old car you have to expect to put a bit of $$ into it. I had it at a body shop and they noticed part of the passenger front and rear fenders had been repainted but it was a quality job and no indication of serious damage. So you were right, there were no real deal breakers with the car. Plus, seller had put on 17/18" wheels and nearly brand new tires. I did not take the stock ones I could have had for another $300 . I am 5th owner- car was sold at Acura in Littleton, entire history in Denver area.
Thanks

Cool: I though it was not a bad deal at all -- nothing to make me advise running away. Nothing was terribly expensive to fix. All of it could be done for less than $1000.

Oxygen sensors are not expensive; I got a pair of them for $95.00 delivered to my front door. When I put my headers on last year I decided to simply replace them when everything was sitting on my garage floor.

Since this was a very early car, I figured there would be no snap ring issue. Snap ring problems only showed up later in the 1st production year, and through most of 1992.

I'm curious -- did they take care of the battery corrosion, the rear window and trunk struts, and the overflow tank? None of them are a big deal, but could certainly put someone off and queer a sale. They were also a great bargaining chip -- and you seemed to do very well!

If you are in Colorado, shoot me a PM and we can have a cup of coffee.

Mark

They were consigning the car for a guy who supposedly owns 12 of them including the other two Weisco has for sale. I did not ask them to replace the struts- figured that is a pretty cheap, easy do it yourself. Ditto with the overflow tank. I got a quote from an Acura shop for something like $900 bucks to replace the O2 sensors so now I am a bit suspicious of that when I hear you say you got both for $90 bucks. Is it a pretty involved process to replace? Maybe if I am going to get headers now is a good time to do both items from a cost efficiency standpoint. The cost estimate I got was from a dealer so I know their costs are high.... Do you know of a good independant shop around Denver? I have had the CEL come back on - usually when I get it up above the 5000 RPM range so I probably need to deal with this- don't like to worry. I would be curious about the headers you installed- what maker etc and your driving impressions afterword.
Thanks, I would grab a coffee some time, I work in LODO.

You’re right, the struts will be very easy to replace. There is a guy in Canada who rebuilds them for not very much money, which is the way I would go.
I replaced my coolant tank 2-1/2 years ago. I got it from Ray Laks in New York for $85.00. It only took a ½ hour to install.
I put on Top Speed Pro headers a year and a ½ ago and 17,000 miles ago. I paid $515.00 (delivered.) During the install (I did it my self) I also replaced my 141,000 mile O2 sensors. I paid $95.96 for both sensors (delivered.) I had a 22mm open end wrench from my old air cooled Porsche 356 days, and they came out without a problem. My car spent most of its life in Georgia where they don’t use salt on the roads. Everything underneath, even the very few iron parts show no corrosion. Your car may well be a Colorado car, so I wouldn’t anticipate any difficulty either.
The headers made an immediate and very noticeable difference in power, sound, and surprisingly, fuel mileage. When the Top Speed Pro headers were first marketed there were howls about them using flex joints, a la another brand that had earlier experienced a lot of failures. I took advantage of the wonderfully warm weather yesterday to change my oil and made a close inspection of the headers and the right CV joint. All is well with no signs of cracking in either the headers or the CV joint boot. As I said, I have 17,000 miles on the headers and they look to be in excellent condition, with the nice patina stainless steel takes on under heat.
Since I do all of my own maintenance (except for the timing belt/wp, etc, etc which I had Ron98 complete on a trip to California) I do not know of a local independent NSX mechanic. Why don’t you post that question in the Mile High section of Southwest US Region Forum. There are 20 or 30 of us who visit there from time to time.
I live in the Chesman Park section of Capitol Hill, a 25 minute walk from Weisco. PM (Private eMail on the Prime site) with your contact information and we’ll get the cup of coffee.
Mark

Thanks, I will check out the link for the struts. I will get in touch in the next week or so and we could grab a coffee somewhere near/around downtown.
