Any way to find previous owners?

I want to contact the first owner of my X, but I have no idea where to begin my search. Are there any sites I can go to and just punch in my VIN? I don't think Carfax will give out previous owner information, correct me if I'm wrong.

Some state DMVs will release owner information (from the title and/or registration) when provided with a VIN, some won't - and some of those that do, may be able to do so with past owners. Just a thought.

Many of the DMVs have websites with information about services they provide; you can find a link to the website for any particular state here.

You do know that you could buy a new "titanium" key and have it cut for your car, right?

Thanks for the link, but in Washington state...
"The Department of Licensing is prevented, by public disclosure laws, from disclosing previous owner information."

I know I could order a new key, but I'm trying to do this the economical way. I guess if I want one, I'll have to just suck it up and buy new.
