Any NSX-R in the US?

I believe that Japanese cars do not meet US emissions standards (they have to be specifically built for shipment to the US). So I don't think there are any type-Rs in the US. I could be wrong, of course.

Would it be possible to import one as a race car that is never to be registered or driven on the street?

Woops, my bad. After reading the fine prints, these guys made a point about NOT being able to import JDM cars stateside legally for road use, except Skyline GTR's.... Shoot !!

Yes you can, but it is a lot of work. I brought in a Caterham 21 GTO under this limitation. If they catch you on the street you lose your car and will have a large fine. You have to provide a lot of documentation to the D.O.T. and the EPA but it can be done.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any references you can point me to for the paperwork? I know someone who is interested in importing a new NSX-R as a track car and I'm trying to help him figure out what is involved and how to get started with the process.

Lud,

You might try contacting Mark Johnson of Dali Racing for advice. I know he has shipped track-only cars between the U.S. and Europe and I'm sure the process is the same.

Here's some info you might find useful to get you started:

The link below is from the U.S. Gov. DOT website, and one of the main
sources of information. Read everything!! Canadian manufacturered cars
play by different rules, which can also be found on this site: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/

The next link is from the U.S. Customs website that has Vehicle Importation
Regulations on there, also, read everything!! : http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/imp-exp2/informal/car.htm

Each state may have its own specific standards.

Hope this helps!
Sunny
