I just purchased a 92 5spd with 71000 miles on it. I have no previous experience with Honda or Acura. I know they build great cars. I wanted to see if you guys know of anything I need to do to prevent problems, or what to expect to have problems with. I have never bought a 15 year old car before.

Thank you,

John

Hey John,
There are a few issues with the NSX (window regulators. speaker complications to name the most frequent items) and a little searching on this incredible site will help you out, however, overall, this car is so well built and engineered that if you take reasonable care of it, the car may outlast you. The handful of "issues" are really minor and age for this car is almost not of import!
Please enjoy your brilliant purchase...

Hi John,
Congrats on the new ride. The first thing to do would be to figure out your maintaince requirements. You can find the schedule here. What i see alot is people tend to go by the mileage and overlook the time listed. The timing belt is probably the big thing. It should be replaced after 6 years reguardless of mileage. If you don't have proof that it was replaced within the last 6 years it may be a good idea to change it. The cost of the belt replacement is nothing compared to how much it will cost if it fails.

Have fun with your new car.

Don't forget to check to see if the transmission is in the snap ring range. If you do a search regarding the snap ring or look in the FAQ, you will find a lot of information.

Yeah...definitely check the numbers on the transmission....I thought I would be in the clear when I bought my 92, since many of the 91's were the ones' mostly affected...but ended up having my snap ring fail. Ouch! Took a pretty big hit on that. But look through the FAQ as mentioned above. There are a few "little things" that can be small issues and not too hard or too awful expensive to fix. But if your like me and want everything perfect, even on a 14 year old car...it might cost some money to make it all perfect. But overall not too bad. Enjoy!!

I started in the FAQ section and couldn't find anything. Then I hit the one on top of the page and it was all there. I have been there for the past few days. I have learned a lot, like I should have bought a 97, and I paid to much for this one.
I went to the dealer and pulled a history. It looks like the timing belt has not been repalced. It also has an intermittent rough idle.

The CarFax was squeeky clean.
the serial # is NT000502 if anyone has more knowledge on it.

This is my first experience with an Acura. I have been driving Mazda rotorys for 20 years, and will continue to do so. Not much gets past me when it comes to buying a Mazda.

Thanks for the info

John

I just looked up my transmition. my number is 3391. That is before the Snap ring TSB range. this is a good thing, I hope.
