Accidently broke my nsx antenna today, snapped in half, no more radio or MP3 for me:frown:

Does anyone know the typical cost at Acura for replacing the entire antenna unit? Besides OEM and S2K antenna. Are there other alternatives? I prefer oem NSX style antenna but shorter in length.

The antenna motor is fine, only the mast needs to be replaced.

I tried one of the $30 e-bay antennas... and returned it. The new mast body had different threads where you would want to use the stock exterior hardware. And the supplied hardware won't match the lines of the car or fender shape... and looks really chintzy in general. ( I am talking about the little black spacer and chrome threaded piece with the wrench indents.) Dealership wants ~$500 for OEM parts. Definitely try to just replace the mast if you can.

just go www.erzcar.com and get a used one. Talk to Joe. It shouldn't be that much to get one and they aren't hard to install.

Thanks for all the responds.

Ordered oem antenna mast from South Coast Acura today. Very good price with NSXclub 25% off discount. I should have it in 2 days.

However there is one problem. Are there any alternatives for the antenna nut wrench? I also ordered the oem nut wrench, unfortunately it is not getting here anytime soon, backordered in USA. p/n 07JAA-001000C

I did stop by pepboy to look for something that might work, found nothing.

I will be attempting to replace it myself following instruction from this thread:

Any additional tip or advice will be greatly appreciated.

What does the antenna have to do with playing MP3s?
Armando,

The mp3 player I have is one of those "too cheap to buy the real thing or not wanting to add any weight" type of usb drive mp3 player. It is played through the FM radio. Technically it still plays, but just sounds horrible with snapped antenna. :frown:

The nut isn't on very tight. To protect the fender, I cut a slit in a shop towel, slipped it over the nut. Then cut a hole the size of the nut in a piece of cardboard and place it on top of the shop towel. I used snap ring pliers to unscrew the nut.

The shop towel and cardboard are there just in case the snap ring pliers slipped.

NSXT,

Thanks a lot for the tip , I am replacing it tomorrow using your instructions.

I do have a stupid question, after carefully reading your post. I do not quite understand this part. I just want to make sure I do not mess it up and turn it into a much longer job.

I thought radio is already off at this point following your previous instructions?

Thanks
Jason

The radio must be ON to raise the antenna and get the old mast out. It should also be ON before installing the new mast. Once you get the new mast's plastic teeth engaged, then turn the radio OFF to retract the mast into the antenna motor assembly.

Better?

Thank you so much for the info. 100% understood:smile: I followed the instruction step by step today. Turned the radio on to raise the antenna and removed old mast, it as quick and easy. I used a pair of scissors to unlock the nut. It came right off.

Unfortunately the new mast is crushed on the bottom. I am kicking myself for not opening the box at Acura when I picked it up this afternoon. The box was crushed on one side during shipping. Just one of those days. :frown:
