Another RPS clutch thread.

Are you experiencing shudder on a newly installed (4K mi) RPS clutch? I only ask b/c your profile says "bone stock!"

RPS clutch engagement is the smoothest I've ever experienced. Minimal OEM shudder is normal, but I've not read of anyone experiencing shudder w/ the RPS.

As noted above, the RPS is the smoothest engaging clutch I've driven (including stock), so I'm surprised to hear of shuddering. Here's a couple possibilities I can think of:

1. debris under flywheel between crankshaft
2. clutch disc hanging up on splines of input shaft
3. debris / oil on clutch mating surfaces
4. flywheel or pressure plates not torqued evenly / properly
5. heat scoring of disc mating surfaces

When you say hard launches, what exactly do you mean?

cheers,

I have not had one of these shudder at all. They are stiff and it gets some getting used to, but I personally got used to it in under 50 miles. It hooked up smoothly for me. Dispite the increase pedal effort I liked it. Some would not prefer it though for sure.

Chris, I agree with you list above also and would rank them:

4. debris under flywheel between crankshaft
2. clutch disc hanging up on splines of input shaft
5. debris / oil on clutch mating surfaces (would slip IMO)
1. flywheel or pressure plates not torqued evenly / properly
3. heat scoring of disc mating surfaces

I have not done an install yet that has shuddered, all different types of clutches for the NSX, but you need to be detailed as far as torque sequence, proper amount of grease, etc. Even the service manual recommendation for the tightening sequence to me is too course. I go 1/2-3/4 turn per bolt, not two turns like the manual states.

Takes longer, but worth the extra ten minutes.
