A lot of us got lots of advice from Andrie in the past regarding tuning the NSX for track use.
Check out the import tuner that is on the shelves right now. It has article about Andrie Hartanto's race car which he will be piloting in World Challenge Touring this weekend at Infineon Raceway! Root for him if you are attending!

I just picked up the issue today and found the article to be pretty well written. Usually, I just look at the Import Models

Andrie.. Congrats on the article and good luck at the race at Infineon this weekend...

After the first practice session...Andrie was 12th fastest. He was about 1.5 seconds off the fastest time - very respectable. He was as high as 9th.

And as close to dead even with Justin Hall (former Sacto chapter member) as you can get. My, my, my, the kids have grown up !!!

Andrie,,nice driving,,but please finish the race,I don't want you to be in first for 1 or 2 laps and break something or hit something,so please finish, plus the longer you are out there the more chance of us seeing you on Speed!

Due to previous commitments I won't be able to attend the race. Does anybody know if the race Andrie is in will be on TV? If so what channel (maybe Speed Channel) and what time?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi guys, thanks for the support!!

the day started well and we are pretty competitive eventhough it was my first time ever running this configuration. Unfortunately, we blew the motor right the end of the 1st practice. Spent all day swapping the engine and missed the 2nd practice.

I will need all the help I can for tomorrow brief qualifying and race!

Went to Barnes and read the article today. Congrats on the great car and good luck.

oh, and thanks for all the freebie advise.

The weekend started great. With the car handling well and making good power. The engine was tested before during testing for a weekend and performed flawlessly. This netted me 12th fastest in first practice. I know I still have about 1 second left, as I was still being cautious and just take it easy through NASCAR Chute.

Unfortunately things started to go downhill from there. We blew the motor in conclusion of 1st practice. STaSIS was very generous in letting us use their shop to swap the engine. However, we still didn't make 2nd practice.

In Qualifying things didn't go my way either. I did a warm up lap and about to do my first hotlap, when suddenly I lost throttle going into turn 2. I coasted and had to be towed to the pit. We found out when we did the engine we forgot to tighten the throttle cable and it worked itself loose.

Started from dead last for the race, I was working my way up. 1/3rd through the race I noticed some funky vibration and weird handling. Had to dialed it back a little. Then the problem went away after a few lap, only to come back a few laps later. Finally, on the 1 before last lap, I broke the axle. Coasted to the pit and didn't finish the race.

There are lots more story to be told, but it will have to wait until the update on my website.

Special thanks to KEn Yeh (RCrew Racing), John Thawley, Sam Rothschild, Dennis Caco, and everyone who came by to support us!

That's got to be discouraging to put your heart into something and suffer all those consecutive mechanicals. I look forward to reading the article and seeing the program.

DAMN!!!! I missed it today :( Does anyone know if it will be replayed on Speed (NascarVision) and if so when???

Re: NSX'rs show their stuff

Tough break Andrie, but good show of your potential. Hope more sponsors see it. And everyone reading this should consider individual contributions, no?

Where did Justin find that bucket of speed? It looked like he was shot from a gun on the start !!! I can see getting the jump on the row ahead, how the hell did he get by 2 wily veterans like Altenburg and Pobst on the 2nd row and then hold them off? Pretty frickin amazing. However, when he was up on PD's bumper, I began to wonder if he might be using his tires up too soon.

Anyway, keep reminding us of your schedule

and if there is something we can do in the paddock. I'm pretty good at keeping the drinks iced down.

Re: NSX'rs show their stuff

Ted,

thanks for all the links provided.

The RWD will have advantage in the standing start situation compared to the FWD. Of course the ultimate is the AWD Audi.

IMHO, the BMW is currently the car to have or to beat. Currently the BMW has:
1. Bigger displacement than most on the field with 2.5L, while the Mazda is 2.3L and the Acura at 2.4L.
2. Higher rpm than most at 8100 rpm while the Acura and Mazda at 7800 rpm.
3. 50/50 weight distribution
4. Only 20% restricter, compare to 35% on the Mazda 6, but none on the TSX.
5. All that with only 50 lbs heavier than the TSX and The Mazda 6.

^^^

Are you allowed to play with the redline on the engines or do you have to keep it stock? I'm asking because 7800RPM seems a little low on a built K20. Then again I'm not sure if you guys tuned it that way on purpose but I thought you could rev them out a bit more. My blown B18-r is reving at 9K and I figured you could at least match the BMWs redline.

Just wondering :)

The rev is limited by the rule, which came from SCCA pro.

The TSX is K24 with 7800 rpm limit.
The Mazda 6 is 2.3L with 7800 rpm limit
The K20 is 9200 rpm limit, but it is the smallest engine out of the bunch at 2.0L
The BMW is 2.5L with 8100 rpm limit.

At this level of engine build, the biggest factor is the size of the engine. Second, the opening of the intake (throttle body), third is the rpm.

That being said, I don't rev mine to 9200 rpm as reliability goes to shit. I'm reving mine to 8600 rpm during practice and 9k rpm during qualifying and race.

The BMW is capable to 8500 rpm all day no problem. But they are limited to 8100 by the rule.
