I was just wondering if I am the only one who is very anal about my car?? Every little mark inside and out bothers me. Now I am getting better but I would sure feel good if I knew other NSX owners were like me? Does anyone here have a perfect car with no door dings, rock chips, interior blemishes?? If so how do you do it? Will there be any cars at NSXepo that will be truely flawless??

I assure you that those of us that are daily drivers are not anal with respect to our cars. Personally, I look on the everyday blemishes as a badge of honor, saying 'I DRIVE this car'.

I'm kinda anal about my car. But not to the point where I loose sleep over it. Well, not that much sleep... :D

The thought has come to my mind that the average NSX owner has a certain type of personality. Maybe some of the owners who attend the events might attest to.

here are some of my assumptions:
- most nsx owners ARE anal about their car, and probably their house, yard, etc
- most nsx owners research the heck out of most products before they purchase
- most nsx owners make great workers, almost never forgetting to dot the i's or cross the t's, and always doing a complete job regardless of profession
- most nsx owners have a low tolerance for poor craftsmanship and low quality products(probably not alot of ford's as second cars on this forum)
- and ALL nsx owners have great taste in cars!
:D

I think that many of your assumptions may be somewhat true of the enthusiast NSX owners. However, they are probably not so descriptive of the universe of non-enthusiast NSX owners. There are some NSX owners for whom the NSX is "just a car" (flashy looking perhaps, but not an obsession), some who bought it as an impulse purchase without research, etc. However, those non-enthusiasts are not likely to identify with the car as lifestyle, and not likely to spend any time on a website like NSXprime. Sure, it's their loss, but they just have different priorities from us here.

That part, of course, is true.

I used to be pretty ANAL about my car, until I lost use of it for over 6 mos. I don't think about it in the same way anymore. If someone wants to drive it, I don't care. If we want to take it to the movies, I don't care. It is just a car. Granted an exotic, but after all is said and done, it's still a car.

passion and obsession is what i have for all the car i have. ofcourse im more anal on my NSX than my other rides just because its my dream car.

but every rock chips and scratches hurts me inside..:D

You've nailed my thoughts on quality, exactly.

I'm so anal if my tires get dirty I need to put new ones on :D :D :D

Sure, with your connections it's probably cheaper than an oil change, I pay more to mount and balance a pair of rear tires than you pay for the tires. It's about time that Tire Rack subsidized NSX owners by giving away tires. For every set of tires you buy, you get a free second set (in set, I mean every two tires as you get two sets of rears to every set of fronts) if used within a 12 month period. That will encourage use of the NSX and increase Tire Rack's sales to our community. I'm sure that your "Boss" will approve of this suggestion, so let's get it started, afterall, I have 7,100 miles on the car, got my new rears 1400 miles ago, and that means by winter time, I'll need another set. And my first set of tires wasn't even dirty when I replaced them!:p :p :p :p :p :p

Yes, I'm somewhat anal with both my cars, even my beater audi that is parked outside and has close to 100,000 miles on it, and lots of stone chips from the PO, but at 10 feet looks like a new car.

I am getting better though, because being too anal is a sickness that causes must stress and lack of enjoyment, and I've paid for enjoyment, not stress. My NSX is sitting in the sun at work even as I write this because when i was transferring my gym bag to the Audi, i said to myself. "why take the ordinary car to work and let the fun car just sit in the garage.... what fun is that".

By using our cars, we are putting them in harms way. Streets are littered with stones, rocks, tar, bugs, etc. The elements are eating away at our perfect finishes. But, diamonds are forever, not cars, and i'm learning how to get more enjoyment out of mine.

That said, there are several ways to keep a car looking great and minimize the ravages of time.

I've had my car 2 years and 8K miles and it is chip/scratch free except for a small stone chip on the left mirror. Its the kind of chip that only I know of because I found it waxing. No one else could find it. Anyway, here are my tips:

1. Walk alot... park way out where other cars are least likely to park next to you.

2. If you have to park next to cars, try to park next to a 4 door with short doors. Try to park next to clean high line cars where the owner is likely to care about dinging his own car as much as yours.

2a. NEVER TAKE MORE THAN ONE SPACE. The arrogant statement made by doing that is just asking for trouble... and is downright rude.

3. Do not follow closely... hang back. This minimizes stone chip damage.

4. Keep the finish waxed and clean. I go over my car with a duster and a damp towel every day.

5. Put vinyl and leather conditioners on the appropriate surfaces often.

6. Fix damage as it occurs. Don't let it accumulate.

And enjoy the car.. use it up. Its what we paid for.

I agree with mikec. I also have to endure the horrible roads of PA to enjoy mine. I think hanging back (not tailgating) is one of the best tactics to avoid stone chips. I'll come clean and add some off the other ways my sickness affects usage of the X:

(1) I never, ever, park it outside overnight. It goes in the garage each night. This, unfortunately, prevents overnight road trips.

(2) I spray down the front clip, mirrors, and wheels with detailer and remove any bugs, tar, and brake dust immediately after returning to the garage after each drive. Bugs are far easier to remove before they dry on your paint.

(3) No gravel or surface-treated roads ever.

(4) No rain.

(5) I never park it anywhere I can't see it for more than 5 minutes. And it has taken me a while to leave it unattended, period. I am paranoid and so far it has paid off.

(6) Battery Tender gets hooked up after each trip starting yesterday 'cause the temps are dropping considerably at night up here.....ugh.

I wish that were true! Tires are not a "tons of markup" item. If I worked at a local type store it would seem like I was getting them at some smokin deal, but that's just becuase those guys mark things up so high.

I pay about $10.00 less than you guys do for my S-03's and yes I do have to pay for mounting and balancing too. On the other hand, I do have the conviencence of dropping off the keys in the morning and leaving at night with new tires without having to go anywhere :)

Yeah, but I bet you pay less than I do. Heck, based on the results of this poll, almost everyone pays less than I do. (And yes, I have shopped around...)

You could always come out, have lunch with me and pay $15.00 per corner with no additional fees (other than gas and your time that is) :p

I don't like to use Anal towards my attitude. I would say it's a respect to your car.

I cleaned all my car, and of course to certain extent, there's times that I absolutely running out of time and ignored my car.

I had an 95 Accord, 03 TL, and 91 NSX, the TL and Nsx had their own Sponge and towel, while the Accord still sparkly clean while it spent most of its time outside my girlfriend's house.

I tend to think that if I drive a dirty car out, it'll be just like I don't take a shower and wearing dirty clothes out. I'm from a country that automobile is a luxury item instead of just a necessarty product. I can't stand that when I see those people's car had lotto tickets, receipts, hamburger, soda cups on the dash board; cigarette bags, junk mail on the floor... If god wants to punish me for all my sin, make me drive that car.

I've got one more rule

(7) avoid parking by light poles or under power lines, ar any other bird hangout.

The seagulls around here are terrible, plus they often have sand in their droppings, so it can scratch the paint if not careful washing it off.

my car has been fortunate enough that it hasn't been a victim of birds blessings.

i get really irritated when i see rock chip not in the front bumper but on the spoiler and roof.

I just paid $100 to have the pair of rears mounted and balanced, plus tax!!! Why not open a "Rack" here in the Northeast region, with an installation center, with discounts for fellow NSX drivers, now that's service!:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

What is it, some fine art to mounting up tires? A local aftermarket shop here in Sacramento mounted and balanced all four of my tires on 94+ OEM wheels for $40. Did a great job too. BTW, the company is a sponsor of NSXPO.
