So I turned on the radio and i hear a loud popping from the Subwoofer...no music just the popping. I disconnected the amp that sits in the trunk and now hear music which actually sounds pretty good but once in a while (like when switching between CD's or modes) it will still pop... Whats the deal? And another thing: Grape Nuts cereal...open the box-no grapes-no nuts-whats the Deal? (seinfeldism)

thanks

Amp in the trunk? Is this an aftermarket stereo installation?

AMP in trunk?

Ok, if its not an amp then i dont know what the hell it is...it sits to the left of the CD changer on the floor of the trunk and had what looked like a co-ax cable, positive and negative power cables and one other which actually attached to a harness--whaich is what i pulled out. THat i know of, it is not aftermarket...the CD changer and head unit are dealer installed options.

AMP Problem

Hi guys, new here. I've worked on a few systems before, and experienced this problem. Sounds like a classic ground problem. Most systems have a common ground through the chassis of the car, so when the amp, he head unit, or any other equipement, like a synth is not properly grounded, but is still connected to the rest of the system, it will 'pulse' because the power is now trying to ground out through the speaker coils. It's easiest to detect from subs, because the cone is big, and it really picks it up. Check the ground on the amp wiring, to make sure it's tight, and not trying to ground through paint. I think you'll solve the problem this way. Good luck~ C.H.

Just thought I would comment on the other issue brought up after having read so much in the forums--the speakers and sub are aftermarket and that amp is providing the power. The OEM stuff contains their own amps in each speaker and sub..There would be no reason for an amp if the speakers were still stock, I believe.

I beleive your "amp" with the coaxial cable, etc. is the remains of an original "NSX" cell phone (coax is the giveaway, it's the phone antenna connection:)). The transciever can be located on the CD side also. My phone was there and I removed it to install the CD.

It sounds like you have the classic "my OEM amps are toast". Do a search here and you will find all the answers, either repair yourself or send them out. Go to the FAQ and look here:

That section of the FAQ is very good for the do-it-yourself removal of the amp and speaker. The section describing the problem and various places to send them out for repair is also useful:

Someone said a tweeter was located in the speaker enclosure between and behind the seats--are u sure because I get no tweet from it-I have a 93 and I have seen where people remove same for use with other non-stereo components.

I had my old speakers removed and don't remember seeing any tweeters either.

I am sure there is no Tweet coming from it. It must be one dead Tweetie bird....Someone recommended Creative Car Stereo as having done good work here in Phx. And they are close to me. However, I just managed to get both speakers and sub for 207.50 including mailing from a person on Ebay that just had them rebuilt in Nov by Bose and never re-installed....went to aftermarket

tweeter

In another thread nxstasy revealed that the passenger side speaker amp runs the tweeter between the seats--no wonder I can't hear it because that's the side of my car that has mostly failed. Oh--by the way--the FAQ is way out of date on costs to repair speakers ---Bose repairs now for 75/unit....

Oops--nsxtasy said the amp in the passenger side footwell and so that would be the subwoofer amp, I believe not the passenger speaker amp...At any rate, that does not work either....

Yes, it's the one in the footwell. I am quite confident of this because Lud said so. :D

I'm also quite confident, not because Lud says so (no disrespect), but because the electrical schematic in the manual shows it does.
