Amber side marker alternative, I love the new mod

I just did the side marker mod. I have always wanted the clear side markers, but I got no patience. Thought of painting the sidemarkers, but I did not want to destroy the sidemarkers. So instead I purchased vinyl sticker sheets at Superautobacks with approximately 10 minutes of work. I am shocked by the results, I love the new look.

While these are photoshop pics, they actual result looks even better, I will take some real pics this weekend.

It looks amazing on black, red, white cars, as the color match very well. Trust me on this one. At $2.99 + $5 minutes of work, easily reversable, you can't go wrong. It is a bit more difficult to get matching vinyl sheet for other colors, but can still be done, even if the color is a bit off, it is really not too noticeable.

I copy the shape using pencil and paper, then cut the side marker shape off the vinyal sheet. Ideally you want to make a larger cut with extra 5mm all around over the shape of side markers. This will give it a very clean look when you tuck the excess into the rubber around the sidemarkers.

It just barely shine through, you can disconnect them. No comparison, they just look so much better than the ugly eye sores.

Superautobacs has them at $2.99, just got up to second floor.

They do have several silvers, it might match very close, even if it is not a 100% match, it is not very noticeable due to the size.

I had chance to drive the car tonight, I did not diconnect my sidemarker lights on my NSX, so I got a chance to see what they looks like at night.

Side marker lights shines through so bright that you can't even tell that there is vinyl covering the lights, the vinyl is just a very thin layer, enough to cover the ugly amber light completely during daytime, yet unnoticeable at night.

I highly recommend this mod, I would be very surprised if anyone is not happy with the results. Assuming they use correct vinyls stickers.

I would imagine simply removing the turn signals and hitting them with a spray can of touch up paint (a la paintscratch.com) would do the trick better than vinyl, although it would not be reversable - the argument against vinyl is one of color matching, silver is a PITA, and generic silver vinyl will not get anywhere near silverstone.
