I got a call the other day from a friend and Prime member that asked if I lost AM reception on my radio when I installed my little Shark antenna. I told him I had and he agreed that he had to. It got me thinking so I went out and did some looking into it.
Somehow, over time, the antenna had become a little lose so I decided to tighten it. While there I also finally removed my smartenna since I didn't need it any longer. I then noticed a red wire coming from the new antenna that I was dangling there not being used. I pulled out the shop manual and found the wiring diagram for the OEM power antenna. I found that the pink/black(+) wire from the OEM plug would be hot when the radio was on. So I connected the dangling red wire to the pink/black wire while on an AM channel and BINGO, I got reception.
Hope this helps others in the future.
