I did this to my '91 Black/Black for about $5 worth of paint.

That looks great!! I have wanted to paint my engine as well....any tips from your experience that you'd be willing to share? I gotta add that--racy red would look good with the dark green body of my car....

Michigan NSX,

I am very impressed.

How did you get it so the letters are not painted? Very clean paint job.

IIRC, the 3.0L NSX-R (JDM) started the red valve covers, plausibly in a nod towards the Italian styling tradition (red cylinder heads that are the namesake of the old Ferrari Testarossa).

The 2002 3.2L seems to have a more "finished" dark gray on the intake manifold. The latest 3.2L Type-R has the intake manifold in red as well, I think.

1. Remove the parts from the car (removal time approx. 10 minutes) and clean with soap and water.

2. Dry thoroughly (I used an air compressor)

3. Spray parts with Rustoleum Gray Primer. Let dry (approx 10 minutes in the sun)

4. Spray parts with Rustoleum Sunrise Red paint. Let dry overnight.

5. Spray associated fasteners with Rustoleum Gloss Black. Let dry overnight.

6. The next day lightly wet sand (with a sanding block and 400 grit paper) the high area of the center piece. This will give you the "white lettered" look. Dry thoroughly.

7. Spray all engine parts (not fasteners) with Rustoleum Crystal Clear. Let dry 1 hour.

8. Re-assemble using care not to scrape off black paint on the fasteners. And you are done!

The Rustoleum paints hold up to heat extremely well (I used the same grade of Rustoleum paint on my brake calipers over a year ago and they still look brand new).
