specs state 16 gb removable hard drive. Is it possible to swap it out for and 80 gb 2.5 " IBM travelstar hard drive? you could pull any proprietary software from existing hd and bump your capacity5x for $300

Very nice. I personally am glad more NSX owners are dumping the crappy stock system and going aftermarket;) I know others will say it degrades the car, but if done right we can always just put the crappy stock stuff back in if the potential buyer actually wants it:D Good job.

Hi Woody
How are you?
This is there first unit, they sent me 3 hdd cartridges with 16gb per.
You can swap them out if you want a different set of songs.
The rep said they should have a cartridge with more memory available next year.
That you can buy and use with your player.

I do like your Idea, its just a little over my head at this point. :D
Are you going to the spring fling?
Later Brian.

hows life in windsor? system looks very cool, do you have a pic of the hdd cartridge? i am very curious as to its ability to be "enhanced" i have done this with my mp3 portables in the past with good results. big $$ for extra hdd cartridge?

The way the center console is shaped and components are already installed, very seldom do you see anything aftermarket that looks decent and keeping with the theme of the ergonomics. Something that has gone by the wayside.
I have completely updated my audio system also but left the head unit alone since it does the job just fine and makes it appear to the prying eyes that it still has the 'crappy stock system' intact. Little do they now. :D

It wasn't meant as a bash to those who want to keep the stock system. All I'm saying is that it doesn't devalue the car when you want to sell it because you can return it to 100% stock if you so choose.

When you say the shape of the dash and stock deck you have to assume that everyone also likes the look of the cassette and trimmed 2DIN deck. It is not bad, but it does look old and outdated to some. As far as ergonomics, an aftermarket deck in most cases puts the volume knob in the same location as stock and the station memory buttons are all still within easy reach. The ergonomics haven't changed just the look. You may not like that look but others may. No bid deal.

No question the stock deck can do an acceptable job. However, if someone wants it to do more than it just wont cut it. Some people want to have time alignment, 5.1 DTS, hard drives or what not. This may not be for everyone, but the stock system is not for everyone either. Isn't that the best part of owning a car or anything in general? To make it your own:D

I'm just one of those believers that every car made is a compromise in some way. Nothing is perfect and you can't built something that pleases everyone. I like 95% of the things in my NSX, but have no problem tryng to change the 5% that I don't like. I'll just return it to stock if a buyer wants it that way.

Ditto.
I'll just return it to stock is a buyer wants it that way.
My plans as well.

Hello to 92nsx.

What amps and speakers did you go with?
Are you using anyother equipment other than amp, processor for example. Let me know. I have the 804 and 805 adapter, so I trying to figure if the $$ and time is worth upgrading just the speakers and amp.

I know it has been discussed in other areas. Just wanted to get your most recent feedback now that you have had stock deck with upgraded speakers and amp.

Thanks

I will take a few more pics on Tuesday.
I don't know how much the exta hdd cartridge was.
Did you take it apart to enhance it?
How hard was it to do?

Did you take it apart to enhance it

the ones i modified booted off the ram so i didnt have any software issues, just swapped out the hard drive and reformatted. I think any apparatus that uses 2.5 " hdd could be swapped out for the new 80 gb 7200 rpm drive. there are plenty of programs to mirror the contents of the drive and preserve any proprietary software. My guess is that the software on the alpine system is on the ram in the head unit and the the cartidge is nothing more than a hdd with contacts to connect to the head unit. could be reeeeaallly easy. does it look like the thing can be disassembled easily?

no spring fling for me, car needs some attention from our friend on this side of the river

looks like about 5 minutes to swap that out for an 80 gb travelstar, is there someone you can call to find out if the operating system is in the ram or on the hard drive? usually the tech help dudes will fess up and tell you yeah, just pop in a bigger hdd....

The install looks great. if you happen to come up here for any of our car shows, please let me know. i'd love to see it in person. it's just difficult for me to get away to Canada...
