today I had a weak moment and for a split moment had thoughts of trading my nsx in. the sporadic problems are starting to bother me.... anyways, I'm gonna stick it out.. made an appt to put her in the shop next week.

dunno how serious it is, never does it with a mechanic nearby.
my sporadic startup problem is just about guaranteed if there is a hot chick standing nearby though, already replaced a couple of things for that and it still continues. now i have a sporadic rotational clunk going on in the rear end, can feel it in the whole car. sounds/feels like its my rear passenger wheel but the noise stops when I engage the clutch.. so who knows. Had acura check it out before and of course it didn't do it for them.

enough of my whining. it'll all get fixed.

Check the main relay for the sporadic start problem if you haven't already.

already replaced the main relay and the fuel pump resistor.
fuel pressure has already been checked, codes read normal, and a few other things were checked. this is truly a sporadic on-going issue.

LOL if these problems are frustrating you, never consider owning a 3rd gen Rx7. Mine blew 3 motors in 6 months (one was my fault).

I've decided to stop my belly aching.... I have a buddy that just told me the list of problems he is having out of his 2004 car which far exceed the lil' problems I am having.

jones - you are driving a thirteen year old vehicle.....do you expect no problems?

I expect them.. just tired of the sporadic ones that are a pain to narrow down.

NO CELS WITH THE START UP PROBLEM? what finally gets it going for you?

sjones,

I've seen a repair order from the previous owner of my car, it had slow, or hard to start problem, and the dealer replaced all spark plugs to solve the problem. There were some corrosion on the spark plugs, maybe due to old age and lack of use.

Anyways, just thought I throw that out as another item to check. Good luck.

I had a sporatic starting problem with a 98 M3 i had  This was my dream car for as long as I could remember! Estoril blue and tons of aftermarket stuff including a full port and polish job. I spend about $25,000 on this car just in extras and this car sat for months on end at about 5 different shops and no-one could fix it! Sometimes the car just would not start, Id come back 3 minutes later and it would then start but sometimes it would start for days and then it would just kick right over. Left me stranded in multiple situations including a "hot date"! I finally sold this thing and had never been happier. I wanted out of this car so bad I sold it to the first person who looked at it! I miss this car but am still happy she's gone. Had my NSX for 1 year and i've never had a single issue with it since I bought it. Not a single thing! Honda's RULE!

Thanks for the suggestions...but i had my plugs changed with the 90K service, so thats not it.

Your starting problems really do sound like Main Relay or Fuel Pump. Would you be willing to install a fuel pressure gauge? That would let you monitor it to see if the problem has low fuel pressure associated with it. Keep a spare spark plug in the glove box and use it to identify if you're getting spark when it's giving you fits. Starting Fluid can also be used as a diagnostic tool. If it will start with starting fluid, but not normally, then it's a fuel problem.

I don't know if it missed it, but what's the starter issue u're having? My starter makes a grinding sound sporadically instead of turning over the engine. Pretty annoying, and like you said, it only seems to happen when someone is watching heh.

Time to have someone check the ring gear on the flywheel. Sounds like you have some damaged and/or missing teeth. Actually more likely that the mechanism in the starter that pivots the pinion onto the ring gear on the flywheel is worn.
