Hello,
I was just about to send payment to the seller 2000 miles away for his 99 NSX when he mentioned that his Check Engine Light is always on due to O2 sensor code. He said previous owner installed an aftermarket header (he doesn't know the make) that caused this. He has replaced all the O2 sensors at the Acura dealer last year and their NSX master tech is unable to resolve the problem. He said the tech has informed him that possibly because of the different location of the O2 sensor due to the aftermarket header, it is giving the ECU false reading, and the only way to fix it is to bring back the stock header.
I had sent the car for a PPI to the same dealer (only one in town) last week. I spoke the the master tech after the PPI and he said car is in 'great' shape and there's nothing to worry about. He never mentioned the check engine light. I plan to call him tomorrow to discuss this. You'd think for a PPI, he should mention CEL to me.
I did a search on Prime on Check Engine Light with after market header, and it does seem like a common problem. But I didn't find anything that said the problem was not fix-able.
Should I be concerned about this? Car has 70k miles, other than header and ARK exhaust, stock. $40k.
