Gentlemen (And Shawna);
The day has finally arrived! I picked up my Formula Red '91 on black yesterday from a very nice gentleman in Ottawa. It had 115,900km when I drove away, now having about 116,800km.
As we had prior commitments yesterday, my friend and I had to ensure we'd be back to Niagara for 5p.m. With that in mind, we left his house at 3:00a.m. and arrived in Ottawa for 7:15 or so. We all made small talk, inspected the car and arranged the test drive. At about 9:00 or so, we went to the nearest MTO office and tried to get the plates switched. As all poorly written good stories go, there's a twist lurking around the next corner.
We were 21st in line, as their computers were down and processing was very slow. When I was called, I went up, filed the paperwork and tried to pay the taxes...Disaster! Their debit/credit machine had just decided to go the way of the rest of their network. I had to run to the bank, withdraw the cash and run pack to pay my fair share to road construction and infrastructure redevelopment. All said and done we had handily eaten up any contingency allowance I had built in to get to dinner on time. All was going swimmingly, until about Brock Road when gridlock happened; we stayed in it until Keele Street, where I decided we'd head north and take the 407 the remainder. Why didn't you Toronto guys tell me Keele Street was under major construction and there are detours and delays all over the place? We made it home in one piece, then made it to dinner only half an hour late, which I feel is victorious considering the hurdles we had to jump.
This Canadian car was in his care for the past 13 years and has remained completely factory stock (except the aftermarket alarm) with a stack of receipts about an inch thick with maintenance history for the duration of his ownership. Larry was an enthusiast, but not a member here and definitely regrets the sale.
Now with any car that age, there are a few niggles that have manifested, namely the speakers and drivers side window, but overall it is a great car immediately needing nothing.
Because (my teachers always told me not to start a sentence with that word, but what the hell) I haven't cleaned the bug guts off it yet, you will have to settle with the ones I stole from Autotrader. I guess we're only getting the small ones.
