OK, I'll admit it. My 97 RL is boring the crap out of me. We are working on buying a MDX to replace our Accord and that will be our new full size vehicle with utility capability. I then plan to lose the RL in favor of something more fun to drive. Living Ohio means I don't get to buy another NSX as a daily driver. :( Trust me, I've asked her plenty of times. So what can I get? I need your help in deciding a fun car that can handle all weather conditions here in Ohio and still get looks as it drives down the road.

Your thought?

I still say go with the NSX  That's what I will be driving and I live in the OH of IO.

I was kind of looking at the Mercedes S-Class for a bit, but then decided I'm going to do the NSX ultimate driver course of action.

STi. It will handle all kinds of weather, damn fast, and not will not get you the looks. Also the AWD versions of the 5 series and the A6.

Here ya go Juice.... Use this...

That black Cayenne in the background is fun to drive... Has plenty of utility...
Can tow pretty darn well... and the wife can keep up with you when trailing you in the NSX......

Probably not the most popular choice, but what about a used VW Phaeton. AWD, air suspension that brings the huge car into a resonable handling range, huge rear seat. Resale has been poor thus far. So low milage ones are way below MSRP. But rumor is that while it's now selling like hotcakes in Europe (BTW - shares lots of components with Bentley flying spur - four door GT) they may cease offering it in US.

Here's mine

New RL is the pick...

Infinity G35X- AWD- luxury, 4 doors if you need em' and I believe 297hp....

The G35x features a DOHC 24-valve V6 engine with 280-horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode (ditto for the next step-up M35x). The 6-speed manual transmission version of the G35x has 298-horsepower.

My personal AWD pick would be an A4 or A6 for the styling, technology, and refinement.

There is a link on the following thread that leads to the:

A very thorough, in-depth look at each model!

Ohio guy here too...

I personally love the new stuff Audi is coming out with. A3 hatchback, A4, A6, or a TT? all can be had in AWD and manuals, and very nice interior.

BMW and MB both offer AWD versions of most of their sedans. Check into those.

My emotional suggestion is the new CLS500. Traction control so snow won't be a big problem, and those things are dead sexy.

I'd say no to the rally-cars, because if you're used to luxury, you won't like em.
my .02, maybe ill add more when i can think clearly

Volvo S60R - 300hp and AWD. I heard you can get them $5000-$6000 off sticker since no one seems to know about them.

I personally love the new Subaru Legacy GT Limited. Its basically a more Spacious/luxurious STI...

I could not agree more. I think the Phaeton is one of the best bargins on the market currently. VW has come a long way in the last few years. I bought a Touareg in 04 and just love it.

For the northeast year round vehicles recently I have owned a A-6 4.2 which was a great car just a little boring. Before the Audi I had an X-5 which is a great car but like most BMW's not something you want to own out of warranty.

I'm way ahead of you on this one. I do not plan on buying new, and these suckers are hard to find used. Add that I want one in black and it becomes that much harder. You can get a factory "spec" body put on these cars that make them look incredible and very much like their LeManns brethren.

I need to look into the VW Phaeton. Not exactly sporty, but talk about luxury! I'm just not sure if it will fall into my price bracket as we are looking at buying 2 cars in a short period of time. I am looking at the new RL, but I have this hang up about buying cars so close to their release date. I've learned a lot from my '91 NSX!

Some of you guys are really clowning on me! And don't be so sure I'm too much of a pussy to do a year round on a NSX. This thread might turn into a thread about snow tires on the NSX if we are not careful.

S4, S8, 993C4S - All are fun used 4wd
If you can go 2wd in the winter (I can/do) then add M3, M5

I really don't know about the Columbus, OH. geographics there, but my 2 cents are that if you were living in an area that had any incline... RWD cars, even with the most cutting edge snow tires won't do you good.

Well, I'm living in Seattle, and though it doesn't snow much, where we live in is a pretty high elevation mountain, and when it snows, RWD cars parked on the side of the road. It doesn't matter how advance the traction control system is either. The fact that you couldn't jerk the drive wheels/tires left and right to get the car moved is the very problem of rwd cars on snow.

Once the tires hook up, I liked driving the RWD cars on snow... felt like D1 drivers but it's very slow...

Since you had been driven a RL for awhile, it's time to get the replacement. Especially the new one looks very cool with quite a bit of ammenties.

Josh,

Get an M3 with snow tires. No really, mine did fine in snow up to 4 inches deep. (Plowed the snow with the air dam). By the way, I would go with an E36 M3 since it is cheaper and there are more aftermarket go fast goodies. Damn, there it goes again, that addiction rearing its ugly head. By the way, since you are the big butt king, sorry, the wide body king, what do you think of the quality of the Erebuni. I like their "new" kit.

Tim

Someone posted a '05 RL with different ground effects than the A-Spec. Aftermarket for sure. I've searched the forums forever for that photo and never did find it again. There was a beautiful RL in the front of a Honda Tuning that I once had, but I have yet to see anything anywhere else.

Again, I plan on getting the '05 RL in a year or so. Just not right now. I can't stay away from Honda, but I have never driven anything but. At least for a year or so I would like to say I drove X-car.
