As many of you already know, City Council recently voted to NOT extend Race City's lease past 2010. So, the uncertainty surrounding our track's future is gone, but unfortunately the track will soon be gone as well. A petition has been set up so we can voice our concerns about the loss of our track. If you've already signed it, thank you. If you haven't, please take a moment to do so. It's also worth taking a few minutes to read some of the comments and possibly write some of your own.

Council needs to get an understanding of how many people use the place, and how important it is to us. Therefore it's critical that the petition be signed by as many people as possible. Winning elections is a numbers game and every Alderman is well aware of the need to respond to issues that impact a large number of voter's. If enough people sign the petition, Race City may get some additional time, or Council may assist us in some fashion towards securing a new facility.

The reality is that as much as it isn't perfect, we have been incredibly lucky to have such a facility at our disposal for all these years. Please do your part in convincing Council how important this facility has been to you. And pass this email to all your Motorsports enthusiast acquaintances ... far better they receive several similar emails, than none.

I signed it. I mean, all that oil, and no where to burn it off??

That's a crime.

You guys need to start a grass root movement with the Police areguing that having the track cuts down on Street Racing.

Although the point is unprovable, it seems like a logical argument and it can get the police and even conservative types behind it!

I signed it too. Be sure to go to a council meeting and stand up and tell them that those who support the non-renewal of the lease are in affect "supporting street racing" in all of its forms. Maybe have the media come out too and see the positives that having a track provides. Be sure to tell the media that city council needs to support the lease and that the blame for any increase in street racing will fall upon those elected if and when the track is closed. I would also start a facebook group to petition more signatures from those who support the track and what it stands for. Just my 2 cents worth.....
