So I was bored one day and decide to tackle a real cold air intake.
I was curious mostly about how it would sound. I figured it would probably not yield any power gain but what the heck. So I started browsing Ebay for possible piping source.
I came across 90-93 Integra Cold air intake which went for 35bux.(+15 bux shipping...bastards!)

It only came in red or blue so I opted for blue. Very ricey
So anyhow, I get the package about 1.5 week after paying. First, I try to line things up....nothing lines up...doh. After cutting the cold air part of the piping it sort of lines up. So I go ahead and try to stuff the cone intake behind the side vent.....IT DOESN'T FIT! The fender liner doesn't close up cleanly. After bitching and moaning + moving things around for about an hour, it finally fits...sort of. It's still a very tight fit. Anyway, here's the finished product. The filter does sit right behind the vent but I don't have a picture.
I start the car and it starts right up...wow. I take it for a ride and....??? HOLY CRAP! THE DAMN THING IS LOUD!! From 4k-6k rpm, it has a nice resonance...sounds like "Waaarrrrrllllll!" But then, hit the vtec point and crap...it sounds like "BaaahhhHHH!" It sounds like a race car. It is so loud that I can't hear my exhaust whatsoever. Not really the ferrari intake sound I had hoped for! I"m still deciding whether or not I like the sound.
In the end, I learned the following.
1. Ebay has a lot of ricey stuff.
2. There really isn't much space for intake behind the side vent. I need thinner/longer cone intake to make it fit better like the ones listed here. http://www.knfilters.com/universal/univrndtap.htm
3. Big sound makes the car feel more powerful.
4. I probably should just stick with Cantrell or Dali intake scoop thing.
All in all, it was a fun experiment for mere $50 but I wouldn't recommend anyone doing it. The End
