I hope someone can help me on this.
Since a while my airco makes a lot of noise.
Each time the compressor turns on, it makes a noise like a jet-engine.
My car is a '91 with 47k.
Should I replace the compressor or some belts ?
Thanks.Duke.

Get the pressure measured asap.

You might be low on freon, which means youre also low on oil, which is .... bad.
Finding aircospecialists overhere is pretty hard.
There are a lot of them saying they know about it, but beware. Showing you a computercontrolled re-filling station is not enough.

Airco's parts are pretty expensive , and the system is very complex. Add the three letters 'NSX' and you know you don't want to fool around with this.

I found out the hard way.

(In Nederland is een keurmerk voor specialisten die echt weten wat ze doen)

Thanks dutchy,
You're right about airco-experts.
Do you think it is low on freon?
I've got enough cold air, it's just this
noise..
BTW, did you fix your snapring problem ?

Getting the pressure measured is only a second, so just hop into your aircospecialist. He might also be able to tell you the cause of youre problem.

For the tranny, i'm waiting for a trannycase and shortgears to arrive from the US.
(Euro trannycase = approx 1200 USD, US trannycase + all bearings and stuff = 625 USD)

WHAT???????

Good luck with youre airco.

I had the airco checked today. There was enough freon & oil, no leaks. They said it will be the compressor itself. Sometimes an old compressor can start to make noise. It can work another few years, it can also die in a few days. Strange that nobody on this forum had the same problem. Maybe it is because my car was in a showroom in Canada for several years( '91 and first used in 1997).I'll keep you informed.

Thanks. I own serial number 800134 - just 4 cars before yours. Mine is red/black and was made in September of 1990. Do you know when yours was made - there is a sticker on the driver's door jamb.

no it is not signed, I saw the name on a label I found in the trunk. It was written in Japanese.Something about check-up and control. My friend translated the label.
I'm sure about the last name because of a certaim Mister Masamoto used to make the best swords and knives in Japan.

Guys,

In regard to the "noisy" compressor, it is not that uncommon amongst our earlier cars. If it fails is can certainly "brake the bank" since there is a potential for metal bits to end up in the whole A/C system. This will cost a small fortune to fix. I have the same problem and will use the A/C in a limited way until I replace my compressor.

You can use a compressor from a Legend (I believe a 1992 non-US Legend compressor will fit properly, with a swap of the manifold.

See here for details from Mark Basch: http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML/000289.html

BTW, I priced this at $263US + shipping + $40 core charge, rebuilt from http://www.compressor-intl.com/ This included a new reciever/dryer. They will not sell a compressor without it.

Since Mark Basch is located in Pheonix, with average temps about 110F in the summer months, I suspect his data is VERY accurate, as usual
