Yes, cooler air is better but less restriction in the intake helps too. Bigger filter with bigger pipes reduce restriction and if you can get cooler air all the better. The amount of power you can gain from cold air and/or a less restrictive intake is measurable but small, less than 1%. I think the best reason to put on a different intake on an X is to increase that wonderful intake sound the X makes
