Air intake K&N or SW

My suggestion, DON'T get a cone filter to replace the OEM airbox.
I'm running the Cantrell AIS, OEM box and OEM filter. I just switched from the UNI filter back to OEM for a couple of reasons. I might switch back though.

If you spend some time searching threads, I believe it is fair to summzarize that the Comptech airbox, particularly on forced induction applications, makes some power. Also, the Cantrell setup does (some suggest the Cantrell setup is prone to ingesting excessive water in heavy rain - not sure about this??). Beyond these (and recognizing that Comptech is expensive) it seems OEM is best at making power. Some suggest adding a K&N filter element to the OEM box. Others are concerned with excess dirt entering the motor and causing premature issues (again not sure about this??).

I would not just go out and add a cone element on the NSX. I believe it is a complete waste of money and will not add power from what I have read.

Please explain why don't you want to use the cone filter? What manufacture?

Any manufacturer.
A cone filter is only going to be ingesting air from the engine bay that is going to be hot. Hot air doesn't do anything to help an engine create more power which I'm sure you are aware of that.
Now, if you could find a cone filter that would go inside the OEM box then that would be a different story.

I have made my own intake, using 3.5" aluminum tubing and a cone filter. I have used the stock box for about 7 months and then got a DF UNI filter and there wasn't much of a gain.
My filter sits right at the air vent in the rear qt. panel and this keeps the filter away from the engine heat. My NSX isn't a DD so I'm not worried about the rain. Although I have gotten stuck in the rain and I haven't had any issues.
Now with the cone fiter and turbing I noticed a good differance over the stock box and the Uni filter. The mid range feels alot better and the car is more responsive. There are many variation in the intake system that people have used and have come to the conclusion that the stock box is better.
First off, you need to measure the surface area on the stock filter and then the cone filter. People usually don't increase the surface area of the filter and so they don't notice the differance in power.
I'm in the process of doing a before and after dyno of the stock box and then the intake I made. Also with help from some friends on prime we will do before and after dyno with the intake on the comptech supercharger.
