Hey guys

I have carbotechs on the car and the squeaking is really getting on my nerves.... but they work so good on the track. Anyone know of a comparable pad that doesn't squeal and squeak as bad? Oh I have the Panther plus version. Thanks!

Its a tossup. Performance w/squeal vs no squeal & lack of performance.

575, 360, 430, and 512 ferrari's ive driven all squealed on the road. Heck, if they squeal coming to a stop... i'm cool with it ;)

I've got graphite pads and they Squeal something fearsome. I'm going to be switching back to stock very soon.

Squealing is mainly caused by vibration between the back of the brake pad shim and piston from the calipers. I would strongly recommend you trying the Project Mu pads. They are priced below OEM and perform way better. Stronger initial bite and higher operating temperature which is great for track use as well. I think any retailer can get Project Mu, the distributor is Mackin Industries in Santa Fe Springs, CA.

Alright they sound ( yes making a joke ) worth a shot. I think SOS sells them don't they.

Update. 1. They're expensive as hell! $333 per axle.
2. They only make them for NA1.

For the time, I have put these Carbotech Panther Plus at the rear. As I have a trackday next week and some mm pads left front, I will change the front pads to Carbotech after that track event and tell you more. But, for the time, the rear pads do not squeal at all.

my experience is that if you have shim with them, they only squeak with brake force applied, if you don't have the shim, then it will squeak at any time...

Project mu pads are great, but they are not quiet on street, good performace on track pads... Their race pad squeaks like pig too...

The only thing I could come up with is to try to file the sides of the pad at angle, it does help a little bit.

Hmm.. The stock pads will fade a lot quicker than the Carbotech P+'s due to the pad temperature rating, IMHO you are better off swapping the front pads to the P+'s before the trackday, the car will be more stable under braking.

Just think brake bias, with the P+'s there will be slightly more bias on the rear relative to the stock brake setup, not significant for street driving but it might make a difference in regards to being more comfortable braking at the track ==> lower laptimes :D

I put a set of Hawk HP+ on the rear. This weekend will be the first track event with them so I will see how they do, but on the street the squeal is only occasional and very little.

I have the Carbotech Panther + pads on mine as well and holy smoke, it's just mindnumbing to listen to them squeal. I can't stand the noise. in fact, I'm going to swap the stock pads back in for the trek out to NSXPO (or else I may go crazy on the way there!).

Finally someone else that understands:smile:

Not necessarily. If you have a semi-metallic, the metal in the pad contacting the metal rotor will tend to generate those vibrations causing a squealing sound.

Aggressive pads do that. Its a compromise...

What pads do you have up front? HP+s are a pretty aggressive pad... And yes, they tend to squeal.

I have Delphi Type ZA pads front in fact

Hmm, Well I have Carbotech P+ front and rear on my NSX. I get just a bit of squeel on the street but nothing that I can't tolerate. IMHO that is still a great pad for track/street use. It is very rotor friendly.

This may seem insane, but I run stock pads with ATE fluid. I used to run stock fluid and found the pedal to be soft as I was leaving the track. I didn't notice it so much on track. Changing brake fluid seems to have solved the problem.

This was at BeaveRun which is only 1.6 miles long but has two really hard braking points, so there is not a lot of time for the brakes to cool.

I never noticed any signs of serious brake fade, although there was a small amount. I was never in any danger of losing my brakes.

The stock pads seem to be pretty good for HPDE. I have even run back-to-back sessions with no brake problems, although oil pressure looked like it might be fading a bit.

This is a 1999 NSX with 16/17 wheels. I have heard the slightly larger rotors may have alleviated problems that existed on the 15/16 cars, but I have no way to confirm that.

Bob, you aren't pushing your brakes hard if you haven't experienced brake fade with stock pads. Believe me when you start to brake later and harder they will fade. The OEM pads just aren't up to the task of hard driving.

Yea, sure if you brake early and don't threshold brake hard then yea, the stock pads will work for ya...

BTW: I was running Motul 600 fluid, OEM pads and Dali Air Deflectors and the brakes faded big time by lap 4 on the second session at Autobahn CC.

Since then, I have upgraded to Cobalt SPort GT, RB slotted rotors and air ducting front and rear. Now I don't have to worry about fade at all.

You may be right. I assumed that having the ABS kick in was about as hard as I could brake, but maybe not. OTOH, maybe BeaveRun and Mid-OH are easy on brakes compared to other tracks and I just haven't been in your situation.

Also, there has been some confusion in my mind about brake fluid boiling versus pads fading. I was once told by one person that the soft pedal I was experiencing was brake fade and by another that it was brake fluid. Changing the fluid seemed to have solved the problem so I assumed it wasn't fade. I may have been wrong.

Try the Endless Vito Nueova, those provide excellent bite with no noise.

WingZ, I too have the Carbotech PP, and they do squeak on the street (lots of dust too), but they are great on the track! Other brake mods are Motul 600 and removal of the dust shields front and rear. I don't find the squeaking unbearable (they don't always squeak), but I only drive the car on weekends, keeping my tolerance level high. When I purchased them, they seemed to be the best compromise among dust, squeal, and stopping ability.
